The West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) was established on 1st January, 2003 in Kolkata under ‘West Bengal Act. XIII’ of 2002′. WBUHS has 124 affiliated institutions.

All the Medical Science courses are brought under one umbrella of WBUHS to help upgrade the level of Education in the state. It provides UG, PG and Post-doctoral courses including the Ph.D. program in Modern System of Medicine, Homoeopathic Medicine System, Unani Medicine System, Nursing Education, Pharmacy Education, Speech Therapy Ayurvedic Medicine System, Dental Education, Physiotherapy and Prosthetics-Orthotics in the state of West Bengal. Admission in MBBS and BDS Course is taken on the basis of NEET UG Score.

WBUHS Admissions

In most of the Courses, admission is done through National level entrance examination (NEET, WBJEE). For some programs, admission is done directly by the University through Entrance test followed by Personal Interview.

How to Apply?

  • Visit the website of the college.
  • Go thoroughly with the Information Booklet and other Annexure
  • Take print-copy of the application and Submit it with a Demand Draft from any nationalized bank of India, drawn in favor of “The West Bengal University of Health Sciences”, payable at Kolkata.
  • Candidates are also being notified to write their Name and telephone number on the back of the DD.
  • Submission of incorrect or false statements/ documents or information in the form may lead to cancellation of the candidature or the admission of the candidates to courses whenever detected.
  • Interview is based on the subjects of the basic bachelor degree of the candidates.
  • The qualified candidates in the Merit List will have to submit all the attested copies of supporting documents with originals for verification of their eligibility at the time of counseling.
  • The Merit list is published on the website of the college. No communication in this regard is made to the candidates personally.

WBUHS Scholarships

PhD Scholars are not provided any scholarship by the University. Under ‘Aikyashree’ scholarship, a brain child of the Chief Minister, the beneficiaries get anything between INR 17,000 to INR 33,000 per year.

The University also provides various scholarships in the following categories

  • Students from the SC/ST/OBC quota securing 75% in higher secondary Examination and getting good rank in entrance are eligible to get a scholarship.
  • Students securing 75% in Higher secondary Examination and getting good rank in entrance from the minority communities are eligible to get a scholarship
  • Students with economically weaker background are eligible for a scholarship by the University
  • Students whose parents are serving or have served in the Defense Services are eligible for a scholarship
  • Scholarship is also provided under the sports quota
  • The University sponsors a scholarship to Physically Challenged Students.

WBUHS Placements

West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) conducts placement drive and also provides internship to final year students. Some of the top recruiters of WBUHS are – Rubi Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Government Hospitals, Apollo Hospital and BelleVue Hospital. Students in the last year are mandatorily required to do an internship at the hospital. Internship Opportunities give the students great experience. They are quite well-paid during Internship and that Motivates them to Work in the Medical Sector.

Students also have the option to do a one-year junior residency as well. This is not compulsory but many students choose to go forward with it. Firing the Internship period, the students are registered as medical officers and after that one can get a job at government hospital. The initial stipend is approximate INR 21,000 per month and after completion of internship it increases up to INR 35,000 per month.

WBUHS Facilities

Ans: Yes, Students of all the medical colleges under WBUHS get the same Stipend. These colleges are under state government and stipend paid is really high in the country. It is around INR 35,000.

Ques. Which specializations are available for MS at WBUHS and which entrance exam is accepted for MS Course?

Ques: How long is NEET result valid for taking admission in WBUHS?

Ans: The validity of the result of NEET shall be only for the current admission session and cannot be carried forward for the next session of admission in WBUHS.

Ans: No, there is no provision for refund of the application fee and fees once paid is remitted to university account. Either you appear for admission process or not, fees once paid is non-refundable.
