The School of Distance Education (SDE), earlier known as the Institute of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, University of Calicut, was established in the year 1981-1982. The School of Distance Education is a major department of Calicut University. The NIRF rank of University of Calicut SDE in the year 2020 was 54.

The SDE is one of the major distance education platforms in the country. The admission to the School of Distance Education, University of Calicut is merit-based. University of Calicut SDE Facilities

The School of Distance Education provides the following facilities to its students.

  • Library: The University of Calicut, SDE has a department library. The library has 3852 books, 1165 titles, and 144 reference titles. Moreover, all the students of the SDE can use the service of the Calicut University Central Library (C.H. Mohammed Koya Library) situated on the campus. The students of the School of Distance Education are eligible to access the service of the library at the University Study Centre located at P.T. Usha Road, Calicut.
  • Grievance Redressal Cell: The University of Calicut had launched an exclusive grievance redressal for receiving the grievance of the students of the School of Distance Education. It had been launched to solve the issues faced by students on the very same day of the complaint lodged through email. This initiative ensures smooth and speedy delivery of service.   • University of Calicut SDE Study Material: The study material of the School of Distance Education is prepared by experienced teachers and skilled individuals in relevant subjects. The study materials are distributed to the students via contact class centers. A soft copy of the study materials is even available on the official website of the School of Distance Education.
  • Contact Classes: The School of Distance Education offers the facility of contact classes at various Learner’s Support Centres. Students can choose Learner’s Support Centre during online registration. The allotment of contact centers depends on the number of students enrolled in each program. The contact classes are conducted in the Head Quarter of SDE, if the total number of students is less than 20. The timetable of contact classes is uploaded to the official website of SDE in advance. The classes are handled either by teachers of the SDE, professors of colleges affiliated to the universities in Kerala, or by experts in the concerned subject.
