Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU) is a state university based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Established in the year 2008, the university is one of an in India as it solely focuses on the education of to-be teachers or students aspiring to become teachers. Recognised by UGC and NCTE, the university offers both part-time and full-time courses. UG, PG and doctoral courses like B.Ed., M.Ed., MPhil. and PhD are offered through different admission processes.

Besides, teaching related courses the university offers other courses like: BA, B.Com., B.Sc., MA and M.Com. As of 2012, TNTEU has 665 colleges under its affiliation offering 27 courses across 7 streams.

The prominent courses are B.Ed., M.Ed. and MPhil. Online application form portal is open and the registration is open until May, 2021. However, there is no such confirmation on the university’s website. Considering the past trends, admissions in TNTEU are open until the last week of August. (In 2020, admissions were open till August 30,2020).

In 2020, registration date for the two-year course M.Ed. was extended up to 21.10.2020, a notification issued by the university said.

Admission is made on the basis of previous qualification’s marks/merit and entrance exam score (in case of some courses like M.Ed.). For admission in courses like JRF, MPhil., and PhD. Interview scores are also considered. Courses BA + B.Ed. and B.Sc. + B.Ed. require both Class 12th marks and interview score.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For B.Sc. and BA: The applicant must have qualified exams in the respective subjects in their 10+2 class with an aggregate score of 50%

Selection Criteria:

  • The admission process is conducted by solely considering the previous qualification’s score. They are merit-based courses.

  • For B.Ed: Candidates have to fill the application form, fill and attach the necessary details and documents. This form has to be submitted via post at “The Secretary, Tamil Nadu B.Ed. Admission, Lady Willingdon Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Chennai – 600 005.”
  • For B.Sc. and BA: Candidates have to fill the admission form is to be filled with proper details and documents and then submitted via post (i.e., offline mode)

Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility of top courses are given below:

  • For M.Phil: The applicant must have completed and qualified M.Ed. with at least 55% marks aggregate. Students of the reserved category will get 5% marks for relaxation.
  • For M.Ed: The applicant must have completed and qualified Master’s degree in any stream Humanities/Social Sciences/Science.
  • For MA: The applicant must have completed and qualified Bachelor’s degree in the same field. MA in History and Home Science require an aggregate score of55% in bachelors.
  • Application forms are released on the official website in July every year. The candidate has to fill and attach the necessary details and documents with it.

Selection Criteria:

  • For M.Ed: The university conducts an entrance exam and considers marks of previous qualification as well.
  • For M.Phil: Entrance exam score with an interview is considered for admission.
  • For MA: It is a merit-based course. Bachelor’s marks will be taken into consideration.

  • The applicant must have completed and qualified 10+2/ senior secondary or equivalent examination with at least 50% aggregate marks.
  • For BA B.Ed. programme in Social Science, Tamil and English. The candidate must have History, Tamil and English subjects respectively in their 10+2 class.
  • For B.Sc. B.Ed. programme in Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry and Botany/Zoology. The candidate must have Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry and Botany/Zoology/Biology subjects respectively in their 10+2 class.

Selection criteria

  • BA + B.Ed. and B.Sc. + B.Ed. admissions are done by considering 10+2 or senior secondary marks and the interview score.
