He told students that there is enough time for JEE Advanced preparations. As COVID-19 crisis is still ongoing and schools have not re-opened completely, 75% eligibility criteria is being scrapped. IIT Kharagpur will be conducting the exam this year.
Who Can Directly Apply For JEE Advanced 2021?
As per the older rules, candidates who wish to take admissions in NITs or IITs or other JEE Main Participating colleges must have scored 75% or higher in their 12th board exams. This is also called the top 20 percentile criteria.
In addition to this, the students who were unable to attend JEE Advanced previous year (2020) due to COVID-19 restrictions, are directly eligible for JEE Advanced 2021. They will not be required to attempt and qualify JEE Main 2021 again.

When will JEE Advanced 2021 Application Form Open?
With this recent announcement, JEE Advanced official website – jeeadv.ac.in – is now being rebuilt for the 2021 session. The information brochure for JEE Advanced and other exam dates are expected to be available soon.
The registration process will undergo some or other changes as few students might be asked to provide specific reasons over why they were unable to attend JEE Advanced 2020. Consequently, it is possible that the application window for JEE Advanced 2021 might open soon after the JEE Main Results of May session. This would be tentatively around mid-June 2021.

- While registering for JEE Advanced 2020, candidates will have to mandatorily choose eight cities under preferences for exam centres.
- IIT Delhi has increased the number of exam cities for JEE Advanced to 212 from 171, adding 16 new centres in India.
- As per the previous notification, JEE Advanced will not be held in foreign exam centres this year.

Interested candidates can check the revised information brochure here.
Conducting JEE Advanced could be a hassle as candidates qualifying JEE Main usually have to travel to a different exam centre city to take JEE Advanced. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, public transport options are limited and pose a huge safety risk. It is questionable whether the central government will assist students for this purpose.

No risks to be taken on the life of students. Mr Pokhriyal has now announced the new exam dates for JEE Advanced 2020 which shall be conducted by IIT Delhi this year on 23rd August 2020 now. The exam was previously scheduled for May 2020 but was later postponed by IIT Delhi amid the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic growing all across the country.

The delay has caused a deep impact on the mental pressure of the students along with uncertainty about the future of admissions to various colleges. Although, this matter is being discussed, as stated by Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal, along with lowering the pressure on students by reducing the syllabus for the upcoming academic calendar.
Around 2.5 lakh candidates will finally appear for JEE Advanced 2020, after being screened through JEE Main 2020, which will then decide their allotment to the various undergraduate courses of 23 Indian Institute of Technology. Approximately there are 11,000 seats available in all the undergraduate courses of all the IITs combined. This means that out of 2.5 lakh candidates of IIT JEE Advanced 2020, only 11,000 might get through the final stage.
When will the academic calendar start?
It is being estimated that the academic calendar is delayed around 3 months. The JEE Advanced 2020 was supposed to be held on 17th May 2020 if the Coronavirus pandemic has not hit the world. With new dates for the 3rd week of August, the exam is delayed by 3 months. There have been no scheduled dates released for the JEE Main Counselling Process which usually takes up to 2 months. This implies that the calendar might tentatively start from October 2020. With a long delay causing an imbalance in studies, it is also important to note whether the syllabus that will be reduced for the upcoming calendar year will affect further studies of students during colleges as nevertheless, almost all topics of various subjects are deemed necessary for advanced college-level studies.
