Admissions at IIT Bhubaneswar is a two-round process; the students first have to prove their efficiency by scoring good marks in the JEE Main and after that, their scores in JEE Advanced exam will be noted.

New Batches for IITs and NITs to start in September 2020

Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been causing a lot of tension all over the world. More than 2 lakh people have died due to this disease all over the world. While students are trying to maintain the physical health each and every day that passes through, it is also crucial how mental health is affected due to the pressure and anxiety caused due to an uncertain future.

JEE Main exam has already been delayed twice due to an unforeseeable future. Even if the conducting agency, NTA, finally decides on a date, there will be fear among students and parents regarding the spread of COVID-19. Students will face even more difficult situations when the seat allocation and counselling process begins after the release of All India Rank Lists. Students who took the JEE Main January 2020 session must also wait until the release of the final rank list.

Academic Calendar is delayed until September

Siddharth Pandey, organising chairman of JEE Advanced 2020 said to a news daily, “As the Advanced exam is dependent on (scores of) JEE Main, it will require additional 2 to 3 weeks to conduct JEE Advanced post the results of JEE Main are announced.” About JEE Main new dates he said, “We are trying to complete JEE Main April Session during June 20-22 and the JEE Advanced exam will tentatively be conducted on July 12.” Do note here that there has been official announcement over postponing JEE Main only until the end of May 2020.

He further added that there has been no announcement of academic calendars or a delay in the same by major engineering institutes including NITs and IITs. But it is an indisputable fact the academic session will be postponed until September 2020 due to the delay caused by this rising pandemic.

Counselling Rounds will be Eliminated

Chairman of the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), Mr Rajeev Tripathi, said that discussions are undergoing for proposed admission processes. He said, “We are planning to get rid of the counselling rounds where students must report physically at the colleges or centers for verification of their documents. Online verification of documents might be opted to avoid gathering of students.”

NV Ramana Rao, Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, said, “The institutes will cover the lost classes through online classes and extra classes on Saturdays. Teaching-learning and evaluation process is going to change in institutes post this pandemic when the situation is normalized.” On admissions of foreign students, he said, “Foreign students have been asked to arrive at least a month in advance to complete their quarantine period before joining the institutes. Students will be asked to follow social distancing norms even after the situation normalises. The batch sizes will be the same as before but the class sizes will be reduced.”
