How Well Is NTA Prepared?
As per the official statement by NTA, 7.41 lakh candidates have downloaded their respective JEE Main Admit Card. Almost 8.58 lakh candidates have registered for the April/September 2020 session.
- In the official press release, NTA also clarified that the number of JEE Main Exam Centres have been increased many folds from 570 to 660. The number of shifts has also been increased from 8 to 12 which has reduced the number of test-takers in each shift.
- As per the official figures, JEE Main 2020 has 120 candidates and each centre instead of 234 last year.
Mr Joshi quoted various points of COVID-19 Safety Protocols for JEE Main 2020 issued by NTA in the interview. He said that further postponement of the entrance exams will hamper the academic year for many students.
He also mentioned about the Odd-Even Rule to be followed at JEE Main Exam Halls. The seating arrangement will be in a manner that students of each shift will sit on alternate systems. Further, first shift candidates will be seated on odd-numbered systems while second shift candidates will be seated on even-numbered systems. This will ensure that on a single day, no two candidates use the same computers.

The staff and other officials of NTA have been preparing to implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at the exam centres properly. The JEE Main 2020 Admit Cards will work as travel passes for containment zones.
However, it is yet to see how many students will actually take the JEE Main entrance exam during the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of COVID-19 cases reached a new high of 75,000+ on Thursday with total cases soaring to 33 lakhs in India.
