National School of Drama (NSD) was established in the year 1959 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. The School offers a full-time three-year course of training in theatre and the allied arts. Successful candidates are awarded a diploma in dramatic arts courses. However, the School has two performing wings the first wings are Repertory Company, which started in 1964, and the second wings are Theatre-in-Education Company which was started in 1989. After the completion of the three-year diploma course, candidates can be enrolment into either of these two companies, or they may work on a project or dissertation on theatre for which they received a fellowship of a years. Admissions in the programs are based on the entrance test, also candidates need to be eligible for the program for taking admission in the courses.

  • Subjects: Dramatic Literature, Acting, Direction, Design & Theatre Technique, Production, Appreciation Courses & Workshop Sessions, Etc

    • Students should be graduation in any subject from a recognized University in India or Abroad.
    • The candidate should have participated in at least 6 different theatre productions.
    • Working knowledge of Hindi / English.

Admissions to the courses of the college are based on the preliminary examination and if selected on the preliminary examination then the candidate has to appear for a final examination workshop for selection.

  • Candidates need to visit the official website and click on the link of the National School of Drama application form.
  • Candidates need to fill and complete the online application form.
  • Candidates should make sure that the entries filled by them are correct or accurate So that the application should not be rejected.
  • Application fee of INR 50 is to be paid online and in offline mode is by post, the candidate needs to write to The Dean Academics, National School of Drama along with a crossed Demand Draft/Pay Order of INR 225 as application fee.
  • The candidate needs to take a printout of the filled application form for reference.

Below is the scholarship provided by the National School of Drama for their students.

  • All selected students will be eligible for given a monthly scholarship of INR 8000 per month to meet their academic and related expenses.
  • Those students who is awarded by such a scholarship by the School will be required to execute a bond of INR 2.88 lakhs to the effect that if student decides to discontinue training before the end of three years, or is made to discontinue on disciplinary grounds, Candidates should have to return all the money paid to them before such discontinuance.

Performing Spaces: National School of Drama has 4 performing spaces available on the campus for the staging of their production. The name of the four performing space is Abhimanch Auditorium, Sammukh Auditorium, Mahumukh Auditorium,

Library: The School’s Library is one of the specialized libraries in the field of drama. By the end of 2013, the library-owned an enormous collection of 26,665 books, 4000 periodicals, 1064 gramophone recodes, 616 slides, 889 photographs, and 200 journals

Study Material: The School will supply free of charge, a mount board, drawing paper, etc, for the classroom purpose. Also, each student will be allocated a locker for his/her material and personal belongings.

Hostels: Institute assists students to provide boys & girls PG accommodation near to the campus with the attached wi-fi in the hostels. All the facilities are available for the students with a homely atmosphere that feeling of belonging and they are all well equipped with all kind of facilities
