National Institute of Science Education and Research is an autonomous research institute. It was founded on 28th August 2006 at Bhubaneswar, Orissa. NISER is under the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of India. It is affiliated with Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. The college offers integrated courses across the science stream. The institute offers an integrated B.Sc.-M.Sc. program in six courses at the undergraduate level, integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. program at the postgraduate level, and PhD in six courses at the Doctorate level.

  • Specializations: Biology, Chemical Sciences, Computer Science, Earth and Planetary Science, Mathematical Science, Physical Science.

  • Eligibility: Candidates must have completed 10+2 level examination with at least 60% marks from a recognized board.
  • Selection Criteria: The candidates must need to appear for the NEST (National Entrance Screening Test) exam.
Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D.
  • Specializations: Physical Science, Computer Science, Earth Science.
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Eligibility: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject with a minimum of 55% marks from a recognized university / college.
  • Selection Criteria: The candidates must need to appear the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) or JAM entrance based conducted by the IIT
Ph.D.

Candidates admitted to the institute must apply online through the official website of the institute. The admission procedure for each course offered by the Institute is listed below:

  • B.Sc. – M.Sc. Admission – Students applying for this course must clear the entrance exam NEST. The selection is made on the basis of the assessment marks obtained in the NEST examination.
  • M.Sc. – Ph.D. Admission – This admission is on the basis of JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test) or JAM (Joint Admission Test) entrance test. These two entrance exams are conducted by the IIT.
  • Ph.D. Admission – Selection is based on overall performance and national level aptitude test scores such as NET, ICMR, ICAR, DBT, and GATE in any case. Interested candidates must go through group discussions as well as personal interviews conducted by the Institute during the admission process.

The college provides scholarships to the students. There are two scholarships namely DISHA and INSPIRE.

  • DISHA Scholarships: NISER provides scholarships to the students. It is funded by the Department of Atomic Energy and all the NISER students are eligible to apply for it. If a student fails any of course, the scholarship is closed for one year. It provides a monthly stipend of five thousand rupees.
  • INSPIRE Scholarships: NISER provides INSPIRE (Department of Science and Technology) scholarships to the M.Sc. students which is INR 5000 per month and INR 30,000 per month for PhD students.
