Madras School of Economics (MSE) is a center dedicated to the field of research and education in Economics. The school was registered as a charitable society under the Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 1975 in 1993. With an enthusiastic research unit and well-formulated curriculum, it has created a niche for itself in both the government as well as the corporate sector. The college is accredited to NAAC and is affiliated with the Central University of Tamil Nadu.

MSE offers two two-year programs- Master of Arts (MA) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). The MA program has five specializations, in Actuarial Economics, Applied Quantitative Finance, Environmental Economics, Financial Economics, and General Economics in collaboration with Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur, and a Ph.D. program affiliated to the University of Madras. The PGDM program offers two specializations, in Research & Business Analytics and Finance.

Madras School of Economics has a beautiful campus. The college has various facilities that include an auditorium, on-campus hostel facility, canteen, computer labs, sports ground, and much more. The institute is also renowned for its highly experienced faculty chair and decent placement rates over the years.

Madras School of Economics Courses & Fees

MSE offers several PGDM Programmes approved by AICTE. It also offers other Post Graduate programs and an integrated program leading to an M.A. in Economics affiliated to the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur. For higher education, MSE provides a Ph.D. course in Economics. Ph.D. students are selected based on their performance in the entrance examination and a research proposal.

M.A. General Economics
  • Specialization: General Economics, Financial Economics, Applied Quantitative Finance, Actuarial Economists, Environmental Economics
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Eligibility: Any graduate of a Recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks for General category, 50% for OBC- Non-Creamy Layer, and 45% for SC/ST/PWD candidates and had studied Mathematics or its equivalent at plus two levels.
  • Selection criteria: Entrance test
Integrated M.A.
  • Specialization: Economics
  • Duration: 5 years
  • Eligibility: +2 examinations of any recognized Board in India with 60% marks in aggregate for general category, 55% for OBC (non-creamy layer), and 50% for SC/ST/PWD candidates. Mandatory subjects: Economics/Mathematics/Statistics at the +2 level
  • Selection criteria: Entrance test
Ph.D.
  • Specialization: International Economics, Capital Markets, Financial Services, Industrial Economics, Energy and Environmental Economics
  • Eligibility: MA or M.Sc. in Economics with 55% marks
  • Selection criteria: Merit in Entrance Test and Qualifying Examination
