Highlights of JEE Main B.Arch Exam Pattern 2021

The latest JEE Main B.Arch exam pattern has been released by NTA. Students can have a look at the exam pattern of 2021.

  • Half of the B.Arch exam will be conducted as a computer-based exam while the Drawing section of JEE Main Paper 2A would be the traditional pen-paper mode.
  • The exam will have papers in all types of important languages, including the usual English and Hindi. New languages have been introduced for the 2021 session.
  • The marking scheme is pretty straightforward, with four marks allotted to all the questions in Mathematics, Planning and Aptitude being equal to all the sections. The only difference is the drawing section, where skills are looked for more than anything else.

Distribution of Marks in JEE Main B.Arch 2021

The total questions that will be asked in JEE Main 2021 B.Arch Paper will be 82. The exam will be of total 400 marks. The sections marking scheme has been described in detail down below –

JEE Main Paper 2A will be conducted in two shifts, all lasting for three hours. First shift will last from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, whereas the second shift will be from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The mode of JEE Main Paper 2 will be a computer-based test only. However, the drawing test – i.e. the third section – will be on pen-paper. The questions that will be the most used will be multiple choice questions and numerical answer type (NAT).


JEE Main B.Arch Exam Pattern: Types of Questions

Multiple Choice Questions:

  1. All of the twenty questions in JEE Main Paper 2 will carry four marks each, meaning the MCQs will carry 80 marks in total.
  2. If answered correctly, the student will get four marks. On the other hand, if the answer or attempt is wrong, the student will be penalized by cutting one mark.
  3. In case if the question is not answered, it will, fortunately, not be marked negatively.

Numerical Answer Type (NAT):

  1. All of the five questions, just like the MCQs questions, will be carrying four marks.
  2. No question of this section will be marked negatively.

Mathematics Section

Sets, relations and functions; integral calculus; sequences and series; mathematical reasoning; permutations and combinations; limit, continuity and differentiability; differential equations; complex numbers and quadratic equations; coordinate geometry; vector algebra; statistics and probability; binomial theorem and its simple applications.

Aptitude Section

Awareness of persons, buildings, objects and persons; texture related to architecture and build-environment; visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings; analytical reasoning mental ability (visual, verbal as well as numerical); visualizing different sides of the three-dimensional objects.

Drawing Section

Analysis of Various Sections of JEE Main B.Arch Exam

JEE Main B.Arch Mathematics Section

  • JEE Main B.Arch paper includes Mathematics as the first section.
  • The students are intimated the most by this section, right after the drawing question.

JEE Main B.Arch Exam Day Guidelines

A variety of unforeseen and unwelcome things can happen on your examination day and trust me when I say this, you can’t afford going wrong in your JEE Main 2021 B.Arch examination.

  1. The entry gates of the exam centres will be opened around two and a half hours before the start of the exam.
  2. Students appearing for the exam should wisely reach their respective exam centres on time so as to avoid any hurriedness and latency, especially during the final moments before the evident exam.
  3. No entry will be permitted in the exam hall without JEE Main 2021 admit card along with identity proof

For example, students with diabetes can carry small items such as sugar tablets or fruits as well as water bottles, only if it’s transparent. JEE Main 2021 B.Planning Exam Pattern (Updated): Numericals, Sections, Marking Scheme

NTA has officially released JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021 on it’s official website. B.Planning was introduced as a separate paper in 2020. Earlier, it was in combination with B.Arch. Apart from new updates, NTA has devised a structured JEE Main 2021 B.Planning Exam Pattern for the aspirants.

Latest Updates on JEE Main B.Planning 2021:

  • NTA has decided to provide choices in Numerical questions of Maths section because of reduction of syllabus by some boards.
  • Students will now get 10 Numerical Value Questions, out of which any 5 have to be solved.
  • JEE Main Registrations 2021 have closed on 23rd January 2021.
  • JEE Main Admit Card 2021 (February session) have been released on 11th February 2021. Those candidates who had paid the application fee can download their admit cards using application number and DOB.

JEE Main 2021 Exam Day Guidelines

Ques: What is the format for paper 3 in JEE Main 2021 exam?

Ans: From 2020 onwards, NTA has announced a separate paper for JEE Main exam. Paper 3 is of B.Planning and comprises aptitude, mathematics and planning based questions. The exam will be conducted in 13 languages. Candidates can choose the medium of language which is suitable for them. The duration of the exam will be 3 hours.

Ques: Are there any specific changes in the marking scheme for B.Plan?

Ans: There will be 3 sections in the paper namely mathematics, aptitude and planning based. There will be 50 aptitude based questions and 25 each for the mathematics and planning section. Numerical questions are added that carry no negative marking.

Ques: How will the merit list for paper 3 be devised?

Ans: The exam will be conducted in two shifts namely morning and evening. Overall NTA scores will be considered for preparing the merit list. In case of tie, merit will be based on score in mathematics, aptitude and planning based in the same order.

Ques: What is the basic eligibility to appear for the B.Plan exam?

ANs: To appear for paper 3 of B.Planning, a candidate needs to score a minimum of 50% marks in 12th board exam. However the minimum aggregate requirement has been deducted for this year exam. In 12th class, a JEE Main aspirant needs to appear for at least 5 subjects.

Ques: What is the minimum and maximum age limit for JEE Main?

Ans: To appear for JEE Main 2021, candidates must have passed 12th either in 2020 or 2019, not before that. Students appearing for Class XII in 2021 are also eligible. Also, NTA does not specify any upper age limit to attempt the exam.

NTA has revised the JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021. A new paper for B.Planning was introduced in 2020 so JEE Main 2021 will also be conducted over 3 papers –

  • B.E/B.Tech – Paper 1
  • B. Arch – Paper 2A
  • B. Planning – Paper 2B

Latest Update on JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021:

  • As per latest exam pattern, candidates will now have 10 numericals in each subject, out of which, only 5 must be attempted. Total questions in Paper 1 (B.E. / B.Tech) are now increased to 90, but candidates need to attempt only 75 questions. 
  • JEE Main Exam Dates 2021 are officially notified. Candidates can apply for the exam till 23rd January 2021.
  • JEE Main 2021 will be conducted in 4 sessions – February, March, April and May 2021. Session 1 will be conducted from 23rd to 26th February 2021.
  • Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal said that questions will be framed in a way to cover the syllabus of boards which have reduced Class XII syllabus as well as those which haven’t reduced the syllabus.

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021 (Updated)

With 2021, few new changes were introduced in paper pattern. Those sections, which have Numerical value questions, will now have 10 questions. This will be applicable for all 3 papers.

With a reduction of around 30% syllabus by CBSE, students are still expecting for NTA to reduce the JEE Main 2021 syllabus.

  • However, NTA has not official reduced the syllabus till date.
  • JEE Main exam is based on complete 11th and 12th class syllabus.
  • The changes made for JEE Main 2020 September session will be unaltered
    • Inclusion of numerical type questions along with MCQs
    • B.Planning paper has been separated as paper 3
    • No negative marking for numerical type questions

  • In 2020, MHRD directed NTA to not announce JEE rankings/scores
  • NTA will only announce the percentile scores based on which admissions will be granted in colleges across India.
  • However, All India Ranks are still announced for cut off at various colleges.

JEE Main Exam Pattern: Paper 1 (B.Tech/B.E.)

  • Paper-1 of JEE Main 2021 will be conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering courses
  • As per the updates, the examination will be a Computer Based Test and will be conducted in online mode
  • The paper will have questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
  • There will be a total of 60 Multiple Choice Questions and 30 Numerical value questions.
  • Each Subject will have 20 MCQs and 10 Numerical Value Questions. Any 5 numerical question have to be attempted by candidates.
  • The duration of the examination will be 180 minutes.

JEE Main Exam Pattern: Paper 2A (B.Arch)

  • Paper-2 of JEE Main 2021 will be conducted for admission to undergraduate architecture courses
  • It will be a Computer-Based Test and analyses a candidate’s aptitude in Mathematics and Drawing Ability
  • Drawing section will be conducted offline in pen and paper mode
  • Candidates need to bring essential equipment for the Drawing section on their own
  • The paper will consist of a total of 77 questions
  • The paper will include 50 questions for aptitude test, 2 questions for drawing test and 25 questions from mathematics
  • Duration of the examination will be 180 minutes
  • The medium of the paper will be English and Hindi except for centres at Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli cities, which have Gujarati as well
  • Each correct answer will carry 4 marks
  • Two drawing questions will be of 50 marks each

  • JEE Main candidates who wish to attempt both Paper 2 and 3, are allotted a total time of 3 hours 30 minutes

The exam pattern for the Aptitude and Drawing section is as follows –


  • Aptitude test will contain 50 objective type questions
  • 4 marks are awarded for every correct answer

  • The Drawing Test will consist of 2 questions
  • Candidates need to attempt these questions on a separate drawing sheet
  • Each question is of maximum 50 marks

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021: Marking Scheme

  • JEE Main 2021 Paper 1 will be of 300 marks
  • Paper 2 and Paper 3 will be of 400 marks
  • Four marks will be awarded for each right answer
  • One mark will be deducted for the wrong answer except for the Drawing Test
  • Drawing Test will have 2 questions of maximum 50 marks each
  • Answering more than one choice will be considered incorrect and marks will be deducted for the same
  • For numerical value-based questions, there will be no negative marking for wrong answers

Exam Day Instructions for JEE Main 2021

Candidates should keep these instructions in mind while appearing for JEE Main 2021.

  • JEE Main 2021 participants should report two hours before the examination schedule to avoid delay in verification formalities
  • The exam hall/room registration desk will be closed 30 minutes prior to the examination
  • Candidates are not permitted to enter after 9:00 a.m in the first shift and after 2:00 p.m. in the second shift
  • Seat with roll number is allocated to every student
  • One must occupy the seat allotted to them else their candidature will not be accepted
  • A candidate cannot leave the JEE Main exam centre or seat without special permission of the Centre Superintendent or the invigilator before session ends
  • Every student must adhere to instructions by the Centre Superintendent/Invigilators
  • JEE Main 2021 answer sheet with rough sheets must be submitted before leaving the hall
  • NTA will not entertain any re-test, under any circumstances
  • Schedule and test centre will be informed in the JEE Main 2021 Admit Card
  • JEE Main applicants must not bring any electronic device or study material to exam hall
  • Candidates are required to bring all required stationary for aptitude test

Ans: There will be a separate paper for B.Planning from this session onwards that consists of questions from mathematics, aptitude based and planning based. The total marks will be 100 in which 50 marks is for aptitude test.

Ans: As per the revised JEE Main exam pattern 2021, all three papers of B.E/B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Plan. will be of 3 hours duration each. For those candidates who wish to appear for both paper 2 and paper 3, the exam duration will be 3 hours 30 minutes.

Ques: What will be the marking scheme of B.Planning paper?

Ans: There will be MCQs as well as numerical based questions as per the updated JEE Main exam format. Every correct MCQ will be rewarded 4 points and for every incorrect answer 1 point will be deducted. Unattempted questions will not be marked. There will be no negative marking for numerical based questions while correct numerical questions will be given 4 marks.
