Last updated on November 7th, 2020 at 07:42 pm
Considering the huge delay in JEE Main & JEE Advanced exams due to COVID-19 pandemic, this will be the final round for admissions counselling of IITs. The result for seat allotment round 6 has been released by JoSAA @ josaa.nic.in on 7th November 2020. However, in contrast to IITs, there will be two more rounds of counselling for NIT+ system colleges. These include NITs, IIEST Shibpur, IIITs and GFTIs. The two special rounds of counselling will be conducted by CSAB 2020.

What To Do Next?
CSAB NEUT 2020 Counselling has already commenced from 23rd October and results for Round 1 will be announced soon @ csab.nic.in.
Opening and closing ranks for Round 6 will also be updated on the JoSAA portal very soon for all JoSAA Participating Institutes. Candidates who want to take admission will now have only these options-
- Freeze – To accept a seat and pay seat acceptance fees
- Withdraw – To decline a seat and exit from the counselling process.
Rules For Participating In CSAB Special Rounds for NIT+ Colleges
Candidates who want to take part in CSAB Special Rounds have two choices-
- Pay the partial fees, retain the seat allotted in JoSAA Counselling and participate in CSAB Special counselling.
- Do not pay any fees and directly participate in CSAB Special Counselling.
In the first case, the previously allotted seat will be kept allotted and students can participate in CSAB Counselling for chances of upgrading to a better course. However, if a candidate reports to the institute before CSAB Counselling, he/she will be ineligible for special rounds.
In the second case, students will lose the seat allotted to them in JoSAA Counselling Round 1 to Round 6. But they will be eligible for CSAB Special Rounds.

Candidates Will Get Another Chance Directly in JEE Advanced 2021 Due To COVID-19
Last updated on October 14th, 2020 at 12:15 pm
It is finally official. Candidates who had registered for JEE Advanced 2020 but were not able to take the exam amid the COVID-19 pandemic, will be offered another opportunity. These candidates can take the exam again in 2021, IITs have agreed. A joint statement by JAB (Joint Admission Board) was issued on 13th October.
“Addressing the concerns of affected candidates, who were unable to attend the JEE Advanced 2020, even though they successfully registered, JAB has decided to let them appear in JEE Advanced 2021, only as a one-time measure,” IIT Delhi said in an urgent meeting held via video conferencing. IIT Delhi has been the organising institute for JEE Advanced this year, while JAB is the apex body for IIT entrance.

JEE Main Qualification Not Necessary
IIT Delhi also said, “Ensuring equal opportunities to all the candidates, it has also been decided that these candidates will not have to qualify JEE Main again and will be allowed to directly appear in JEE Advanced 2021 on the basis of their previous qualification.”
As per the current JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria, candidates can take the exam only twice in two successive years. Meanwhile, JEE Main allows three attempts with two sessions each year. Students who qualify JEE Main in their third attempt will be considered ineligible for JEE Advanced, assuming their two attempts are already exhausted.
Age Limit To Be Increased Accordingly
This one-time measure will surely help candidates to get admission in the top engineering colleges of India. IIT Delhi Director has also assured that the 2021 attempt will be allowed with appropriate changes in age limit as well. Currently, the age limit has been dropped from JEE Main Eligibility, but still remains for JEE Advanced.
Candidates who used both their chances and also crossed the age limit, will get relaxation in both these options, for appearing in JEE Advanced 2021.
This year, 2.5 lakh candidates were qualified for JEE Advanced but only 1.6 lakh registered for the exam. Out of these, 96% appeared for the exam. It is still unclear that those who did not register for JEE Advanced, even after qualifying JEE Main, will be allowed an additional attempt next year or not.
Qualifying candidates of JEE Advanced can take part in JoSAA Counselling for IITs and Choice Filling till 15th October. Admission to various IITs will be provided based on the AIR (All India Rank) of the candidate.

IIT Aspirants Might Get Another Chance At JEE Advanced 2021 Due To COVID-19
Last updated on October 9th, 2020 at 06:07 pm
No doubt there’s a lot many opportunities lost during this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns and the fear of this fatal disease. Many students have lost the opportunity to attempt JEE Main 2020 this year due to COVID-19. Due to this, they also lost the opportunity to qualify for JEE Advanced 2020 and thus losing a seat in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
However, as many aspiring candidates were affected by COVID-19, they could get another chance to attempt the JEE Advanced in 2021, as an extra attempt. As per the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced, candidates can only take the test twice, in successive years.

Many candidates who registered and could not attend, or performed poorly due to COVID-19 or related issues, could get another shot at the exam as a one-time opportunity. But this extra attempt will only be provided to those candidates, who have exhausted their both attempts in 2020.
This means, anyone who took the JEE Advanced in 2019 and 2020 could get a shot at the third attempt. But those who took the exam in 2020 for the first time, will only be able to take JEE Advanced 2021 as their 2nd attempt.
Here’s what IIT Delhi Director Dr V Ramgopal Rao said on multiple requests from students-
No. of attempts for JEE Advanced & JEE Mains. Please read my views. pic.twitter.com/dFMdLLXLpg
— V.Ramgopal Rao (@ramgopal_rao) September 16, 2020
Three Attempts For IITs
Currently, under JEE Main Eligibility, the attempt limit is set to 3, only within three consecutive years. However, the exam is held twice in a year – in January and April. This makes the actual number of attempts to 6. If a student qualifies for JEE Main, he/she can take the JEE Advanced, for admission to IITs. However, for JEE Advanced, one can take the exam twice in two successive years.
Students, who are able to secure a top rank in JEE Main (probably in their third attempt), are considered ineligible for JEE Advanced if they have exhausted both their previous attempts.
Decision In Hands of JAB
Answering these issues, the IIT Delhi Director told the students that Joint Admission Board (JAB) is the authority on creating rules regarding IIT-JEE Advanced. All the Directors of various IITs are members of JAB, along with other important members. IIT Delhi was the organizing institute for JEE Advanced 2020. While, IIT Kharagpur will be the organising institute for JEE Advanced 2021, which will have to keep this proposal to JAB on increasing the attempts.
So, conclusively, this process might take time. Based on the decision of JAB, students might be able to take JEE Advanced 2021 as an additional attempt.

- JEE advanced results are usually released in June. However, this year, due to the postponement of the exam, the result will probably be delayed.
- The IIT Palakkad Cut Off will be available on the official JoSAA website as opening and closing rank upon release.
- Final Lists will be published in seven rounds for different courses, categories, and genders as per JEE Advanced Cut Off.
