Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research – [JNCASR], Bangalore, Karnataka was established in 1989 under the Department of Science & Technology of the Government of India. It is a Deemed University & Multidisciplinary Research Institute. Ranked 19th among the universities, JNCASR is accredited with NAAC A++.

JNCASR: Admissions

  • JNCASR is a multidisciplinary research centre funded by the Indian government’s Department of Science and Technology. In the field of Engineering and Science, it offers PG Diploma, MS (by Research), Ph.D., and Integrated Ph.D. programmes. For all of the courses offered, JNCASR uses a two-step online application process.
  • GATE/ GPAT/ JEST/ UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ ICMR JRF/ DBT JRF or INSPIRE JRF candidates are qualified to apply for MS by Research and Ph.D. programmes if they have a valid GATE/ GPAT/ JEST/ UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ ICMR JRF/ DBT JRF or INSPIRE JRF score. The interview conducted by JNCASR determines the final admission.
  • JNCASR conducts a Written Examination followed by an Interview in Bangalore for Integrated Ph.D. candidates. Candidates who have completed the JAM programme are also eligible to apply.
  • Admission to the PG Diploma programme is dependent on the candidate’s performance in the qualifying test. Final admission will be granted based on an interview.

  • The candidates who are aspiring to take admission for any course at JNCASR, Bangalore can go through the following steps:

  • Fill out all of the appropriate fields and submit your registration.
  • Log in using the credentials you received in your mail.
  • Complete the application form & upload all the necessary documents online.
  • Complete the payment of the application form.
  • The fee should be paid online through card payments or net banking.
  • Download the completed form and keep it for your reference.
  • The application fee is INR 500/-, which can be paid through Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card.

Note: Students can now apply for their selected courses for JNCASR 2021 Admission. Students must check their Eligibility Criteria before applying for the JNCASR 2021 Admission. Students must note that qualifying the eligibility criteria is a requirement only for applying in JNCASR. However, it is not a mandatory field during the shortlisting for the interview.

JNCASR: Scholarships

  • According to government guidelines, students pursuing Master’s or PhD at a government college are eligible for a monthly scholarship.
  • MS (Research) students will be granted scholarships of INR 25,000. A student grant of up to INR 40000 is given for coping with the travel expenses for all the national & international conferences.
  • All the admitted students will get scholarships based on the CSIR/UGC norms.
  • Junior Research Fellows in Science receive Rs. 25,000/- per month.
  • Senior Research Fellows in Science receive Rs. 28,000/- per month.
  • JNCASR also offers
    • Project-Oriented Chemical Education (POCE) programme
    • Project-Oriented Biological Education (POBE) programme where selected students are expected to work at the Centre for three consecutive summers, and will receive a scholarship of Rs 6000 a month during their stay.

  • Halls: JNCASR has big spacious halls as per requirement of the events. They have an Auditorium, Conference Hall, Kanada Auditorium, Lecture Hall, etc.

They have their separate Animal House, Confocal Microscope, Bio Imaging Facility, Flow Cytometry, NSM, Scanning Electron Microscope/Transmission Electron Microscope, Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility, TITAN Transmission Electron Microscope, etc.

  • Animal Facility: The JNCASR animal facility is in a peaceful corner of campus, away from any noise or pollution, making it a perfect location for animal care. The facility is equipped for all kinds of small animal experimentation including quarantine, breeding and other experimental rooms for rodents & rabbits. The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee is in charge of all kinds of animal experimentation of JNCASR. The animal use is regulated as per the guidelines presented by the Government of India.
  • Guest House: The guest house of JNCASR is present in the Gymkhana grounds of the Indian Institute of Science(IISc). Between the IIS, The circle and the Yeshwanthpur circle are in the Gymkhana grounds. Turn right once you’ve entered the gymkhana grounds.The JVH is located at the end of the road. An auto rickshaw ride from the City Railway Station to the JAWAHAR visitors’ house will cost about Rs. 60-70.
  • VIN Laboratory : Veeco Instruments Inc. is the leading supplier of instrumentation in the nanoscience community. And it has established a Veeco India Nanotechnology Laboratory. This Laboratory is collaborating with the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), located at Bangalore. “Icon Analytical Equipment Pvt.Ltd. is Veeco’s Representative in India for sales & service for their range of various products.
