The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is a public educational and research university with a 27-year history. In the NIRF India Rankings 2020, the institute was ranked 7th in both Engineering and Overall. IIT Guwahati offers M.Tech., M.Des., MA, M.sc., and PhD programmes at the postgraduate and research levels. IITG offers B.Tech and B.Des for undergraduates.

JEE Advanced and GATE scores are used to determine admission to IIT Guwahati’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Admission to PhDBL courses can also be obtained via the Ph. D-NET review. Admission to all courses is given based on the following national level exams

The Institute is also well placed with over 300 offers made by Indian and International companies in placements last year. Big tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, American Express and many others were recruited. INR 70 LPA is the highest CTC available, whereas INR 24.2 LPA is the average offered package.

IITG holds the world ranking of 470 in the QS university ranking and is ranked 221st in Asia. The Times World Higher Education Rankings in 2020 ranked IITG between 601 to 800 worldwide.

IIT Guwahati: Achievements

  • Prof. Utpal Barua has been awarded the Gold Medal as the “Extraordinary Work,” in an International Exchange Exhibition in Hangzhou, China where G20 countries participated, for his work on the 2016 G20 theme. In this mega event, he represented INDIA.
  • Chetna – an exploratory interaction of gestures to empower rural female pregnant women in Assam with India’s top 30 innovations (IIGP).

IIT Guwahati: Admissions

  • B.Tech is admitted via the JEE Main course.
  • Courses are admitted to B.Des/M.Des via CEED.
  • The M.Tech course can be admitted via GATE.
  • The M.Sc course is admitted by IIT JAM.
  • The MA/M.S (R) course is accepted by means of a written test and a personal interview.

How to Apply?

  • IIT Guwahati generally starts the admission cycle for BTech admissions with JEE main registration starting in December.
  • Aspirants must qualify as JEE Main and JEE Advanced in order to secure entry in BTech.
  • A valid UCEED score is required for admission to BDes course. For MDes, a valid CEED score from IIT Bombay is required.
  • For MTech and Integrated MTech courses, a valid score in GATE is required. Final acceptance is made by advice (CCMT).
  • Candidates with CPIs of 8.0 or higher who have completed their BE/BTech degree will be exempted from the GATE/CEED score requirement for MDes/MTech and MS by course.
  • Applicants with GATE/ NET (JRF)/ INSPIRE/ CEED qualifications can apply for MS through research programmes and PhD programmes.

  • Only M.Sc. has offered placement opportunities for eleven out of 55 students.

IIT Guwahati: Scholarships

  • Bonn Indian Women’s Association: Based on an Indian Women’s Association endowment, Bonn, it is a first-year scholarship.
  • B. Tech./B.Des./M.Sc./M.A. students at the Institut Merit Scholarship (IMS): The grant is intended for the top students of all streams during the year and will be awarded in the second year.
  • SC/ST SCHOLARSHIP: All B.Tech./ B.Des/ M.Sc/ MA are awarded SC-ST Bursaries On a mean basis, SC-ST students.

The duration of the scholarship:

The scholarship is granted for two semesters to students eligible: a total of 8 (8) months from August to November and January to April.

Profits:

  • Two-Semester fixed scholarship per month (August-November & January-April).
  • Overall Rs. 250 per month, 8 months.
  • Breakdown free (only for the basic menu)
  • Hostel room rental exemption
  • All SC/ST students are waived by statues regardless of their tuition fees.

IIT Guwahati: Facilities

  • LIBRARY: In a four-storey building is housed the Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library. Currently there are 154,564 volumes in the library and 2291 newspapers have subscribed for it. It contains a number of online and abstract e-books.
  • HOSTEL: IITG got two girls and a hostel of 9 boys. Each hostel has a common multifunctional room, TV room, T.T. room, fitness centre. Badminton courts are also available in some hostels, volleyball courts. The reading room with the latest magazines and a host of newspapers are also available. Each room has a LAN connection.
  • SPORTS COMPLEX: Badminton court, squash court, table tennis, swimming pool.
  • LABS: Computer lab, electrical lab, language lab, mechanical lab, electro medical and speech technology lab, speech signal processing lab.
  • Other facilities: Cafeteria, gym, hospital, auditorium, music room, dance room, post office, bank and atm.

Ans. The necessary documents are as follows when counselling:

Ques. How do you qualify for your doctorate?

Ans. The IIT Guwahati PhD programme is available regularly, sponsored, part-time and self-funded and in four specialised areas, including CE, EEC, CS and chemistry.

According to the criteria, ME/MTech/MSc in the respective field with at least 60 percent aggregate marks would have been required by the applicant. Applications can also be made to candidates qualified for GATE/NET (JRF)/CEED/INSPIRE.
