CSAB Eliminates the Requirement of 75% Marks in Class 12 for NITs, CFTIs and IIITs

As per the public notice on July 23, 2020, CSAB decided that it will relax the eligibility and qualification criteria for admission to NITs, CFTIs, and IIITs. HRD Ministry conveyed his message via a tweet that only JEE Main Score and Rank will be considered as the only eligibility criteria for admission. Therefore CSAB has dropped the earlier set criteria of considering a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 boards examination. If a candidate has a pass certificate for class 12 and subsequent JEE Scores, he or she will be granted admission.

According to the previous year JEE Main Eligibility Criteria, candidates had to obtain a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 or Top 20 percentile rank in their respective boards. However, due to unprecedented circumstances, these changes have been made. The news came right after the Joint Admission Board (JAB) dropped class 12th marks as eligibility for IIT admissions. The series of decisions have been made due to the fact that class 12 exams were not conducted properly amidst the pandemic of COVID-19 and hence students were assessed on the basis of different schemes. These changes are obviously not long term.

We have witnessed a series of revisions in the process of JEE Main admissions, from changing dates twice to IITs and other JEE Main participating institutes scraping off Class 12 eligibility criteria. NTA is set to conduct JEE Main examinations from September 1 to 6, 2020 after rescheduling it for the second time.
