Established in the year 1857, University of Madras is a state university approved by UGC. Commonly known as Madras University or UNOM, the university aims to impart quality education to their students through both undergraduate and post graduate programmes.

The University has 68 study and research departments, organized into 18 Schools each and spread over its four campuses. These departments offer graduate and post graduate courses in various specializations, part time and full time Ph.D. programmes along with diploma and certificate programmes.

University of Madras Admissions

Admissions to the undergraduate programmes is conducted on merit basis. For postgraduate programmes such as MJMC, M.com, M.Ed., MTech etc., candidates have to sit for an entrance test.

For admissions in the MBA and MCA programmes at the university, the candidates have to appear for the TANCET examination conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

How to Apply?

  • Visit the official website of the university.
  • Register using your email id and password.
  • Login again with your new credentials and fill the required information.
  • Upload the necessary scanned documents in the prescribed format along with scanned photograph and signature.
  • After adding all the details, submit the application form and pay the application fees. The application fee for filling the form is INR 354. Candidates have to submit the fees through online mode.
  • Download the hall ticket from the university website and appear for the exam on the given date and time slot.

*Note- 1- Candidates are required to send attested copies of their previous mark sheets along with the printout of the form at the university.

2- The SC/ST/SA candidates belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu will can register only one application free of cost. Candidates have to submit an attested copy of community certificate along with their application forms to avail this concession.

Madras University provides ample placement opportunities to the students. The university organizes various meets and workshops for the skill development of the students. Counselling sessions are also held with the students to provide them a wide range of opportunities based on the student’s aspirations and interests.
