Founded in 1992, the Academy of Maritime Education and Training University is a self deemed world-renowned institute dedicated to maritime studies. “University” status was given to the institute in the year 2007 by the Ministry of HRD. AMET Chennai was ranked 201 for BTech by NIRF in 2020.

The university offers UG, PG and PhD courses across 36 departments. The most popular among them are engineering courses. Admission under these courses are based on Academic merit, its own entrance examination along with personal interview.

AMET Chennai: Admission Process and Eligibility Criteria

The admission process of AMET is mainly based on academic merit and AMET entrance examination along with a personal interview.

  • Applicants have to fulfill the eligibility criteria along with scoring cutoff marks or more in the entrance examination taken by AMET.
  • The process of registration is online or offline with a registration fee of Rs1000.

  • Applicants must pass their 10+2 board examination from a recognized board
  • Applicants must get 60% aggregate.
  • Applicants must clear the entrance exam taken by AMET.

  • Applicants must pass their 10+2 board examination with a 50 % aggregate.
  • Applicant must clear the entrance examination taken by AMET.
M.E
  • Applicants must have a B.E./B.Tech. degree in the respective subjects of specialization with 60% marks.
  • Aspirants must clear the entrance examination with the cutoff marks or merit rank required.
  • Aspirants have to crack the interview round taken by the university.
M.B.A. (Shipping and Logistic management)
  • B.B.A degree is mandatory for a the aspirant.
  • 50% marks in the last qualifying exam is needed.
M.Sc. (Marine biotechnology)
  • Bachelor degree in science (Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics tech), Agriculture and Medicine with minimum 55% marks and Life Sciences/Biology as Main/Ancillary subject.
Ph.D
  • Aspirants must have their master’s degree in the respective subject of specialization with 60% marks.

The following points should be considered before you apply for a reserved category admission in AMET Chennai.

  • Candidate should have secured a minimum of 55% marks for General Category and 50% marks for SC/ST category or CGPA of 5.5 on a ten-point scale for general category and 5.0 for SC/ST category in the qualifying examination

AMET Tamil Nadu: Scholarships

Students of the university are entitled to 5 different scholarships. If eligible for the scholarship, students are given a fee concession. The 5 types of scholarships are as follows :

Name of the Scholarship Details
Shree Janakiraman Scholarship AMET provides scholarships in the form of fees concession to students who can’t afford to pay the regular fees due to financial problems. Students first have to submit their application to the Vice-Chancellor then the same is brought in front of the the committee which sanctions the the application by scrutinizing every detail.
Meritorious Student Scholarship The university provides scholarships to students who have secured 90% marks or above in their Higher Secondary or (10+2) examination. These students are given 15% concession in their tuition fees. The application is first submitted to the Vice-Chancellor which is then taken in front of the committee for further sanction.
Single Parent Scholarship This scholarship is provided to students who have lost their parents due to death or divorce and are unable to pay their regular fees. The application is to be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor along with a death certificate or court proceeding’s documents. It is further taken to the notice of the committee and then it is studied very minutely before sanctioning 15% concession in the tuition fees.
Single Girl Child – Fee Concession Keeping in mind the number of girls pursuing marine studies, the university provides fee concession to the single girl child in order to encourage the students to pursue this subject. A concession of 15% in the fees is given to the cadets during the admission after minutely their economical status and past academic results.
Ex-Servicemen Scholarship During the time of admission the child of ex-servicemen in the same field are allowed a concession of 15% tuition fees by the university if they can provide valid documents issued by the central government stating the same. Any student whose parent/s have been a part of the the service can apply for a the scholarship.
Maritime Training Trust Scholarship for Female Cadets All-female cadets under the Department of Marine Engineering and Nautical Science are eligible for the above-mentioned scholarship.
