Sikkim University, a central university offers courses in Human Sciences, Language and Literature, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and some professional courses in the field of Mass Communication, Management, Education, Commerce, Music and Tourism. Sikkim University admission formalities start from April/May every year. The academic session starts in July. The central university provides admission through both merit and entrance exam.

As a university, it is made up of several schools offering varied courses and streams. These schools are located in different locations and headed by experienced professors in their respective fields.

The Sikkim University offers varied courses with different admission processes. Schools provide varied courses and degrees under similar streams like Human Sciences, Languages & Literature, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Professional Studies, Social Sciences.

Admissions are done based on Merit, Entrance Exams and Interview. However, as of now, there is no official confirmation on their website regarding the admissions of the 2021-22 academic session.

Eligibility Criteria

  • For BPA Music, Class XII passed with 40% marks in any discipline.
  • For BSc Geology, Class XII (Science stream) with 45% marks.
  • For BSc/BA Psychology, Class XII with 45% marks in any stream/ discipline.
  • For BA Chinese, Class XII with 45% marks in any stream/ discipline.
  • For BVoc IT, 10+2 in Science with Mathematics /acquired NSQF level IV in the particular industry sector.

Selection Criteria

  • For BPA, Admission through CAT (Central Admission Test) conducted by the Sikkim University. The merit list prepared after the result determines a candidate’s admission.
  • For BSc, the candidate has to take CAT (Central Admission Test). The merit list will later determine and secure the seat for the candidate.
  • For BA from the University, the candidate has to take CAT (Central Admission Test). The merit list will then determine the admission of a candidate.
  • For BVoc, the candidate has to attempt CAT (Central Admission Test). The merit list and cut-off will determine the admission of a candidate.

How to Apply?

  • Admission notice contains names of programmes offered, last date for submission of online application, date of Entrance Test and will be uploaded on the University website.
  • Candidates are required to fill in their details in the application form online.
  • Candidates will be required to write an entrance, CAT and will be shortlisted from it.
  • All communications to the candidates including a list of candidates shortlisted for entrance tests and interview will be uploaded on the University website.

Eligibility Criteria

  • For MCA, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and passed in Mathematics at 10+2 for General or 45% for SC/ST/OBC.
  • For MSc, candidates must have passed their BSc with at least 45% marks in related subjects.
  • For MA, candidates must have passed BA in related subjects with 50% except for English/Hindi/Anthropology/History/International Relations/Mass Communication/Peace & Conflict Studies/Psychology/Political Science which require candidates to score at least 40%
  • MA Economics/Nepali/Zoology candidates must have at least 45% marks for admissions
  • For MBA, candidates must have a graduation with 50% marks for General and 45% marks for SC /ST/OBC/DA
  • MPhil candidates are required to have a masters in related fields with 55% for General and 50% for reserved to be eligible.
  • For LLM. Law Graduate with 45% marks for General and 40% for SC/ST/OBC/DA
  • For MPA, Bachelor in Performing Arts (BPA)/BA in Music/ B. Music with 40 % marks / Honours graduate with 45% marks / Pass graduate with 56% marks from any recognized university
  • For M Ed, BEd /BA BEd, BSc BEd/ B El Ed with 50% marks /D El Ed with UG degree with 50% marks in each 45% for SC/ST/OBC/DA
  • For MMTM, Graduate Hons with 40 % marks or Pass graduate with 56% marks with Tourism as one of the subjects.
  • For MCom, BCom Hons with 45 % marks

Selection Criteria

  • For MCA, a written entrance test followed by an interview is required. Candidates with UGC – NET (including JRF)/UGCCSIR-NET (including JRF) ICAR-NET/ ICMR-NET/DBTNET/ SLET/GATE / M.Phil. degree holders are exempted from written test.
  • For M.Sc., MA, LLM, MPA, M.Ed., MMTM and M.Com, admission is through CAT conducted by the Sikkim University.
  • For MBA admission is through University CAT followed by Interview and Group Discussion. Candidates with valid CAT/ MAT/ C-MAT score will be exempted from the entrance test.
  • For M.Phil a written entrance test followed by an interview is required. Candidates with UGC – NET (including JRF)/UGCCSIR-NET (including JRF) ICAR-NET/ ICMR-NET/DBTNET/ SLET/GATE are exempted from written test.
