IIT Ropar Admission 2021: Dates, Eligibility, Selection Criteria, Application Process

IIT Ropar is accepting applications for admission to the M.Tech Programme in the departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering for the academic 2021-22. IIT Ropar will accept the GATE score for the program.

Following are the key points related to the admission procedure for M.Tech:

  • For General Category, the opening and closing GATE ranks for admission are 811 and 717 respectively. However, the rank varies from department to department.
  • Candidates are required to check the eligibility before choosing their department of work.
  • Candidates are required to register on COAT (Common Offer and Acceptance Portal) 2021 before applying.
  • The application form costs around 500 INR for Gen/EWS/OBC category and 250 INR for SC/ST/PWD category.

IIT Ropar ranks 25th among the top engineering colleges in India as per the latest NIRF report. Besides M.Tech, IIT Ropar also offers B.Tech, M.Sc., and Ph.D. The admission process for PhD has begun, and the last date to apply is April 12, 2021.

The admission for M.Tech at IIM Ropar is based on JEE Advanced score. There are several specializations available in the program having different eligibility criteria for the same.

IIT Ropar Admissions

  • Admission to all of B.Tech/ B.Tech+M.Tech courses are through the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance examination held in India to determine eligibility for admission to various engineering colleges. It is made up of two separate exams: the JEE Main and the JEE Advanced.
  • Admission to all of the M.Tech courses is through the valid GATE Score Merit. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a test that assesses a student’s overall comprehension of various undergraduate engineering and science subjects in preparation for admission to a master’s program or a job in the public sector.
  • Admission to all of the M.Sc courses through the M.Sc Joint Admission Test (JAM). IIT Ropar Scholarships

Students can apply for the following Scholarship from the Institute:

1. MCM (Merit-cum-Means) Scholarships at the Institute: Undergraduate engineering and technology students may apply for Merit-cum-Means scholarships from the Institute. Around 25% of the students are allowed to do so.

The following are the merit criteria for the continuation of the Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship:

  • CGPA must be at least 6.0; and
  • The previous semester’s SGPA must be at least 6.0.

2. Merit Prizes and Certificates from the Institute: For the first and second semesters, the Institute awards merit prizes and certificates to the top 7% of students in each 4-year B.Tech. program.

3. Fee Studentship Program: On the basis of financial need, the Institute provides free studentships to 10% of students. The beneficiary is not allowed to pay the tuition fee.

The following are the merit criteria for the continuation of the Fee Studentship Program:

  • CGPA must be at least 6.0; and
  • The previous semester’s SGPA must be at least 6.0.

4. Scholarships are available for students from the SC/ST category: Tuition fee waivers are applicable to all SC/ST students, regardless of their parents’ or guardians’ income.

5. Scholarship for Post-Metric Students: SC/ST students may apply for the State Government’s Post-Metric Scholarship. Students can find more information on the websites of their respective state governments.

6. Scholarship for SC/ST students to pursue a top-notch education: The student may choose to receive this scholarship from the Government of India.

7. Other scholarships: In addition to the above-mentioned scholarships, there are few other scholarships awarded by NGOs and some external agencies.

8. Fellowship for B.Tech.-M.Tech. Dual Degree: Students are members of B.Tech.-M.Tech. A dual degree program with good academic performance is awarded a scholarship in the final year, which is at the same level as that granted to students of M.Tech. programs.
