Manipur University is a renowned university located in Imphal, Manipur. It was established in the year 1980 under Manipur University Act and was later converted into a central university in the year 2005. The campus is spread over an area of 287.53 acres. The university has been accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by NAAC and currently has 108 affiliated colleges.

The university offers various UG and PG courses such as BA, BCom, BSc, BE, MBBS, PDGCA, PG Diploma and many more. It also offers various certification courses including languages like Thai and Korean.

The admissions to most courses at Manipur University is done based on merit. However, certain courses require candidates to write entrance exams like NEET/CAT/XAT and more. The selection of candidates will be based on the cut-offs released by the university.

Manipur University offers excellent facilities to its students. Some major amenities offered are Computer Centre, Library, Health Centre, Hostels.

Manipur University Admissions

Earlier the admission procedure was done in offline mode, but due to the existing pandemic situation, the process has shifted to online mode. The admission is done based on merit as well as entrance examinations. The University offers various UG and PG programmes hence each of the courses has a different mode of enrolment.

After the entrance tests are held, a list of selected candidates is drawn through which the procedure of admission is finalised. In the case of merit-based admission, a merit list is released, following which the students have to pay a visit to the admin office with the required fee and necessary documents to secure their seat.

The admission begins in July every year. The entrance exams are held simultaneously throughout the admission process

How to apply?

The process is quite simple. The candidate needs to go to the official website of the university and look for an application form. In case of offline admission, they are required to visit the administration office, collect the form and fill it on spot.

  • The cost of the registration form is INR 400 (INR 300 for SC/ST) and the payment can be made through Cash/Online Payment depending upon the mode of registration.
  • The candidate is required to download the form and fill in their personal information like name, address, domicile, mobile number, academic records, etc.
  • Once the form has been filled, they are required to submit it to the concerned department or the admission cell of the University.
  • Documents to be submitted along with the admission form are – Photocopies of Admit Card, Mark sheet of Class 10th and 12th, Migration Certificate in case if the student has passed their exam from another state’s board, entrance exam mark sheet, caste certificate (if applicable).

Manipur University Placements

Placements at the University of Manipur is decent and the students of BCA gets the most out of it. The University provides internship facility as well to the students. Big companies like HCL, Axis Bank, ICICI, HDFC, Accenture, Cognizant, and TCS have visited the campus for recruitment.

As per the latest NIRF reports, in the year 2019-2020

  • For UG courses 6 out 19 students got placed with a median salary of 523000 INR per annum.
  • For PG programmes (2 Years), 278 out of 1302 students got a job with a median salary of 655000 INR per annum, the rest went for higher studies.
  • For the PG programme (3 Years), 15 out of 45 students got placed with a median salary of 7500000 INR per annum

Manipur University Scholarships

The students at the university get the benefit of scholarship as there are many kinds of scholarships provided by the University. Those are –

  • Fellowship – The scholarship is provided to MPhil and PhD students for an amount of INR 3000 and INR 5000 per month respectively. The scholarship is awarded based on merit.
  • Special Assistance Program – Under the Life Sciences Department, four scholarships are provided that included two students from Manipur University.
  • Free Studentship – A limited number of the free studentship is available for needy and deserving students.

To apply for a scholarship, the candidate is required to fill a meritorious scholarship form.

Manipur University Facilities

  • Computer Centre – The University has a well-equipped computer centre which is engaged in the day to day requirement of the University. The lab is open to students and scholars. The centre also conducts short term courses for in-service trainees.
  • Library – The library consists of over 1,90,085 documents and subscribed to 3197+ reviewed e-journals. It has a seating capacity of around 200 students and is a two-storeyed building.
  • Health Centre – The health centre provides health care to the students, staff members, scholars and residents of the campus. It also provides medical attention and care during the University Week, Youth Festivals, Sports Meet, NSS Camp, etc.

  • University Museum – The University Museum is multifunctional.
  • Banking and Postal Facilities – There are two ATMs (SBI and Bank of Baroda) on the campus. A post office is also located on the campus.
