Indira Gandhi Institute of Research Development is the premier institute of research and development in multi-disciplinary fields. The institute, more commonly known as IGIDR, is well-funded institute taken under the wing of Reserve Bank of India. The institute was established in the year of 1987, inaugurated by then Prime Minister of India, Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi.

The institute, in its initial years was a pure research-based institute but with the kind of projects and individuals present there, it became obvious that a program was needed to unlock the full potential of the kind of resources present in the institute. Hence, a Ph. D. program was started in the year 1990, which has been a success ever since its inception.

The institute leads research in a diverse background of economics, energy and environment policies. The aim has been always to produce revolutionary policy changes that can redirect the world into a brighter future through these disciplines. The proper funding and backing of the government also help with this initiative.

During this lockdown, the institute has not backed down and has been involved in various completed as well as ongoing research papers. In fact, some of the papers published from this institute has been awarded as the best paper by SEBI-NISM Research Conference. Not only has their papers been in the limelight but also their director, Prof. Mahendra Dev, has been nominated as a Co-opted Member of FICCI.

The notice for admissions for the year of 2021 was recently released by the institute. The academic session for their M.Sc. in Economics and Ph. D programs is scheduled to begin in the month of July. The institute is accepting applications for both of these programs and has listed a number of centers for their entrance test.

The tests that are to be held on Saturday, 8 May, 2021 will focus primarily on English, Analytical ability, General understanding of Economic Environment and Mathematical skills at appropriate levels. After which an Interview Round will be scheduled to complete the admission formalities.

IGIDR Mumbai M. Sc. (Economics) 2021 Admissions

Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. program includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com./B.Stat. /B.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.

Selection Criteria:

The selection criteria for M. Sc. program requires aspirants to give online entrance test at the venue. The entrance test will consist of: Comprehension and English, Mathematics, Economics and Advanced Mathematics. The candidates need to attempt only one test from Economics and Advanced Mathematics since only one from these two will be considered for admission. However, if an aspirant attempt both of these tests, the test which has higher marks will be considered for admission. It is important to clear the cut-off of each of these sections as they are of paramount importance for admission process.

Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum qualification for admission to the Ph.D. program includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: M.A./M.Sc. in Economics/M.Stat. /M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research) /M.B.A./MTech./M.E./B.Tech. /B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.

Selection Criteria:

All candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in an Online test and an interview. The Online test for Ph.D. will emphasize on English, Analytical ability, General understanding of Economic Environment and Mathematical skills at appropriate levels. The test venue will be notified in the call letter. Based on the performance in the Online test, short listed candidates will be called for an interview at IGIDR around second or third week of June 2021. The Interviews will be held online.

IGIDR Mumbai Scholarships

  • IGIDR-IDRC Postdoctoral Scholarships: This scholarship is provided to the students from Select Asian Countries.
