Indian Institute of Science was formed in 1909 in Bangalore, Karnataka with the help of Jamsetji TATA, which led the institute to be known as “TATA Institute”. IISC is a public university and allows students to develop their knowledge in the field of science, engineering, design, and management.

In this university students can complete their Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degree programs. Its undergraduate program is available in eight subjects. Students can apply for this program via online only. The duration of the post-graduation courses of this institute is 2 years. To measure the merit of students IISc only depends on the marks of Kishore Vaigyanik Proashan Yojana (KVPY) exam, JEE-Main, JEE-Advanced and NEET. As per the QS World University rankings, IISC ranked second in the area of citation per faculty across the globe. According to Times Higher Education World University report, IISC ranked between 301 -350 in 2021. QS World University rankings announced its rank as 185 in 2021 in the world and 51 as per Asia University Rankings. On the other hand, It also ranked 10th across the BRICS nations.

IISC: Courses

The institute offers undergraduate programs in eight streams such as Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental science, Materials, Mathematics, Physics, Humanities and Engineering. M.Tech Course
  • This course will help students experiencing advanced research processes. Areas of research include Science, technology, Engineering.

M. Des Course
  • Department of Management Studies offers this management program, especially for engineering graduates.
  • Duration: 2 years full-time post-graduate program
  • Eligibility: Accepts only marks of GATE and CEED

M.Mgt Course
  • Master of Management courses are only available for B.E/B.Tech students

IISC: Admissions

In the time of admissions, IISC only focuses on the merit list. For some courses, the institute designed aptitude tests, group discussion,s and personal interview rounds. The institute determined different cut-off marks for different programs such as for Bachelor of Science course Cut off marks for the JEE (Main): 295 (General), 231 (OBC), 200(SC), 108(ST) and 230 (PH).

  • To get the admission in IISC Bangalore, at first students are required to appear in the national entrance exam.
  • After certain days the institute generally releases their cut off marks for all the exams, different marks for different exams.
  • The next step is the Counselling process for UG students.
  • Students that have cleared the JEE main/NEET will only be eligible for IISC counseling process which is normally scheduled for July 2021.
  • It will be arranged online only.
  • Students need to register themselves on the website of the institute. Once a student gets selected in the counseling process then he or she will be responsible for completing the remaining formalities.
  • On the other hand, admission for IISC M.Tech and M.Des program 2020 will be arranged through the Common offer Acceptance Portal (COAP).
  • In order to get admission to M.Tech program students are required to retain valid marks in GATE and then they must go through the Personal Interview Process.
  • Similarly, the final selection for the M.mgt program will rely on the score in GD and Personal Interview.

Every year IISC conducts their placements in the month of September and continues till May next year. IISC: Scholarship

  • IISC offers students scholarships/fellowships and allows students to retain this opportunity while joining the institute.
  • To earn scholarships students are required to send their joining forms or reports within 15 days to the authorized agencies so that they can activate students’ fellowships.
  • MHRD scholarships are available only for those students who have qualified in GATE/JEST/JAM and ME/ M Tech/ MSC (Engg).
  • This offered scholarship program’s duration is 2 years and for PhD it will be 5 years.
  • Students who earn salaries from companies are not eligible for this scholarship program.
