Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology [RGIPT], Uttar Pradesh: Courses, Cutoff, Placement, Scholarship

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) is located in Jais, Uttar Pradesh, and was established in 2008 by the “Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.” It now has Institute of National Importance status, as well as a governance structure comparable to that of IITs. The Institute offers technical and management training, UG, PG, PG Diploma, and Doctoral programs.

It accepts UG students based on their ranking in the Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced) Examination. For other programs, GATE and CAT entrance examination scores are considered for admission to the institute.

RGIPT Admissions 2021

RGIPT is inviting the applications through online mode for the MBA till the last date, 30th April 2021. For the interested candidates to apply for the M.Tech or Ph.D. programs the process has begun and has to apply till 30th June 2021. RGIPT is now offering an online Research Internship in Petroleum and Energy (RIPE-2021) for 2nd and 3rd Year Bachelor’s students from May 27, 2021, to July 15, 2021.

The AICTE has approved the establishment of a QIP Center in Engineering and Technology (Minor) for Ph.D. programs in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering at the Institute.

According to the NIRF Ranking 2020, the Institute is ranked 134th among engineering colleges.

RGIPT Scholarships

The Institute offers a number of scholarships for the B.Tech students as shown below:

  • Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS) is awarded to the top 10% B.Tech students in all streams. This is from the first year to the nine months with a fixed amount of Rs. 3000 every month.
  • Chevron-Jeet Bindra Scholarships (CJBS) is awarded to 9 students overall among which 4 are on the merit basis and 5 on merit-cum-means basis. This is from the second year to for the nine months ( 2 semesters ).
  • Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarships (IMcM) is awarded to the B.Tech 10% of the non Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes students of all streams on the basis of merit-cum-means. This is from the first year to the nine months with a fixed amount of Rs. 3000 every month.
  • Other interested students of B.Tech may also earn in the form of tutorships.

Ans. The Institute’s closest airport is in Lucknow, which is about 100 kilometers from Jais, Amethi. If you are traveling from afar, the best option is to fly into either Lucknow or Allahabad. You can arrive by car or by train. There are frequent buses from Lucknow or Allahabad to Raebareli, and Institute buses, as well as public transportation, are available from Raebareli to the Institute.

Ans. The institute offers on-campus placements from various recruiters among which Bharat petroleum and many other big companies visited on-campus placement last year highest package was approximately 25 lakh per annum and the average was 12 lakh per annum. ONGC selected 12 students approximately 70% of students got placement.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli has started the admission process of MBA courses for the academic year 2021-2023. First round of selection is already over. All eligible applications received after 14th March 2021 will be considered in the second round of admission process depending on the availability of seats for the preferred streams. Candidates who are interested in RGIPT MBA courses can check the institute’s official website and apply online.

RGIPT has also opened applications for Research internship in Petroleum and Energy for students pursuing their second and third year bachelor degree. Applications are received in online mode from bonafied undergraduate students. The internship is scheduled for six weeks from 27 May 2021 to 15 July 2021.

RGIPT B.Tech Admissions

Eligibility criteria

  • Admission will be based on JEE (advanced rank list).
  • Candidates should have 60% minimum aggregate marks in class 12 or equivalent examination.
  • 55% minimum aggregate marks in case of SC/ST/PwD category.
  • Candidates having colour blindness are not eligible for B.Tech in Petroleum Engineering.
  • RGIPT does not consider preparatory course rank list for admissions.
  • For International students, candidates seeking admission in B.Tech (Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics Engineering) should possess at least 75% aregate or 7.5 CPI in the senior secondary certificate examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics as the compulsory subjects.
  • Candidates seeking admissions to the above mentioned courses should be 24 years of age or lower at the time of application.

Selection Criteria

As per the reservation policy by Government of India,

  • 10% of seats will be reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)
  • 17% of seats will be reserved for female candidates
  • All candidates applying for B.Tech course should clear JEE (advanced).
  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified to attend a personal interview conducted by the college.

RGIPT M.Tech Admissions

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidate should have completed his/her B.Tech degree or an equivalent degree in Petroleum Engg., Petroleum Technology, Chemical Engg and allied areas.
  • Candidate should also clear GATE exam with valid score.

Selection Criteria

  • Eligible applications will be received and processed based on the applicants merit and GATE score.
  • There is 5% relaxation for SC/ST and other reserved category candidates.
  • 15% seats are reserved for SC, 7.5% seats for ST, 27% seats for OBC, 5% seats for physically challenged and 10% seats for EWS candidates. (They are also required to satisfy the other eligibility criteria)
  • List of selected candidates will be shortlisted who have a valid and qualifying GATE score.
  • Non-GATE candidates have to qualify the written test or interview or both conducted by the individual departments.
  • Final list for admission will be released after culminating all the scores.

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates must have completed their bachelors degree with 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA.
  • Candidates must have passed masters degree in engineering technology with 60% marks or CCPA of 6.0 and valid GATE score.
  • There is 5% relaxation for reserved categories.
  • Candidate should clear any of the national level entrance exams like GATE/CSIR/UGC/NBHM/GPAT or Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship.
  • The eligibility for sponsored candidates will be a minimum of two years’ work experience after B.Tech /B.E or M.Sc in relevant study areas.

Selection Criteria

  • Admission to Ph. D course is done on the basis of GATE/NET/CAT/GRE/NBHM/DBT/GPAT/Maulana Azad National Fellowship.
  • All candidates should also participate in a written test and personal interview conducted by the admission committee.

Question: Are there any exemptions from appearing for the written test conducted by the institution?

Answer: Yes. For Ph. D programmes, the following category of candidates are exempted from appearing for the written test. External Registration Category, Sponsored registration category, Part-time registration category, Candidates with National level scholarship, and outstanding students from premier institutions.
