Regional Institute of Education Mysore is one of the five institutions established by NCERT in 1963. RIE, Mysore offers admission for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD and diploma programs. It offers B.A B.Ed and B.Sc. B.Ed courses for undergraduate, M.Ed and M.Sc.Ed for postgraduate and PhD in Education, Psychology and Botany. It also offered diploma courses. There are 4 departments namely the Department of Education (DE), which is the core department of the Institute, the Department of Education in Science and Mathematics (DESM), Department of Education in Social Science and Humanities (DESSH), Department of Extension Education (DEE).

The admission is done based on the NCERT-CEE entrance exam followed by an interview where the CEE score has 60% weightage and aggregate marks (concerned subjects) obtained in the last qualifying exam has 40% weightage. If there is a tie, weightage is given to the Teaching Aptitude Test score, followed by age of the applicant. Application mode is online except for PhD programs.

  • Admissions to all the courses except MSc.Ed is restricted to candidates having domicile of the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territories of Pondicherry and Lakshadweep, as per the quota assigned for each state and UT. Admission to MSc.Ed. is on an all India basis.
  • For the children of Defence employees, the domicile is considered based on the place of location of the State Board/CBSE/College/University from where they pass their qualifying examinations.
  • The total B.Sc.Ed fees for the first year is INR 30660 for general category candidates of other states apart from Karnataka.
  • There are also reserved seats as per the rules of NCERT and GoI.

Regional Institute of Education Mysore Scholarships

  • Students belonging to SC & ST are provided scholarships, but he/she should not receive any other financial assistance from different sources other than this.
  • 50% of the students are awarded merit-based scholarships as per the rules of the institute. The amounts received are-
    • INR 800 per month for BSc.Ed, BA.Ed and MSc.Ed (I to VIII semesters)
    • INR1200 per month for MSc.Ed. (IX to XII semesters) and MEd.
    • 20% of the remaining students are awarded freeship as per rules.
  • •The selected candidate should submit the annual income certificate of their parents/guardians at the time of admission.

  • Hostel: All the hostels can accommodate more than 200 people (in Ganga hostel) and more than 75 (in other hostels) and are well furnished and are equipped with a dining hall, 24 hours RO water supply, 24 hours of Wi-Fi connectivity, TV room, 10 computers with internet facility, 2 English daily newspapers, separate mess facilities are made available for boys and girls with good nutritious food at reasonable rates.

Ans. RIE, Mysore has a good and quality maintained placement system. It has established itself as the best college for school and teachers education. The placement cell of the college has set a rule for the participating schools to follow a minimum salary:

  • TGT should be paid INR 30,000 + free accommodation and food or INR 35,000
  • PGT should be paid INR 35,000 + free accommodation and food or INR 40,000 for conducting campus selection in RIE, Mysuru.
  • The participating schools/organisations are based on a first come first serve basis.

Many schools and organisations have requested to participate in teachers selection for recruiting the teachers they need. So the placement of students from the institute is up to 100%.

Ans. For UG and PG programs, you need to clear the NCERT-CEE exam. And for PhD, you need to clear the entrance exam and the interview held by the Institute. The minimum percentile for applying to UG courses is 50% in 10+2 exams. While that of PG is 50% marks in graduation as well as 10+2 exam. Also, there is a relaxation of 5% for candidates belonging to SC, ST and PWD.

Ques. What is the scope after admission to the RIE Mysore?

Ans. RIE as I have said is an institute that prepares in-service and pre-service teachers and develops them through training and research. After completing the B.ScB.Ed or B.Ed course, you can go on to apply for any teaching job in government or private schools or institutes. You can go on to complete the master’s and do research. You can also complete the M.Ed and clear exams like TET, NET, CTET, etc.

Ans. There are 5 RIE in total throughout the country. They are located in Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysore and Shillong. All of them are reputed institutions in terms of teachers training and preparing students who aspire to undertake a career in teaching. However, RIE, Bhopal is ranked among the top 10 institutes for B.Ed based on the number of students who qualify for CTET. Though all the RIE’s are equipped equally, RIE Mysore and RIE Bhopal have more courses than the others. We should note that each RIE covers a certain state and UTs, so one cannot apply for what he/she wants. One can only apply to the RIE which they only belong to.

Ans. The reservation of seats is based on the rules set up by NCERT and GoI. There is a reservation for SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates with a total of more than 50% of the seats.
