Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) is located in Jais, Uttar Pradesh, and was established in 2008 by the “Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.” It now has Institute of National Importance status, as well as a governance structure comparable to that of IITs. The Institute offers technical and management training, UG, PG, PG Diploma, and Doctoral programs.

It accepts UG students based on their ranking in the Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced) Examination. For other programs, GATE and CAT entrance examination scores are considered for admission to the institute.

RGIPT Admissions 2021

RGIPT is inviting the applications through online mode for the MBA till the last date, 30th April 2021. For the interested candidates to apply for the M.Tech or Ph.D. programs the process has begun and has to apply till 30th June 2021. RGIPT is now offering an online Research Internship in Petroleum and Energy (RIPE-2021) for 2nd and 3rd Year Bachelor’s students from May 27, 2021, to July 15, 2021.

RGIPT Key Points

The AICTE has approved the establishment of a QIP Center in Engineering and Technology (Minor) for Ph.D. programs in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering at the Institute.

According to the NIRF Ranking 2020, the Institute is ranked 134th among engineering colleges.

  • Eligibility Criteria: The Candidate must have a master’s degree in the relevant discipline with 65% aggregate marks or 6.0 CPI ( on a 10.0 point scale) and 60% aggregate marks in a bachelor’s for the relevant discipline.

RGIPT assists students in securing summer internships as well as final career placements. The institute’s placement cell aims to maintain close contact with the industry.   • MBA Students are being considered for the position of Management Trainee at Reliance Industries Limited.
  • ICICI Prudential is recruiting for an MBA student to work as a Management Trainee.
  • GAIL is recruiting for Executive Trainees with a B.Tech (Chemical Engineering) degree.
  • Four B Tech (Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering) students have been hired by Algo8.
  • Cognizant hires four B Tech (Chemical Engineering & Petroleum Engineering) candidates.

RGIPT Scholarships

The Institute offers a number of scholarships for the B.Tech students as shown below:

  • Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS) is awarded to the top 10% B.Tech students in all streams. This is from the first year to the nine months with a fixed amount of Rs. 3000 every month.
  • Chevron-Jeet Bindra Scholarships (CJBS) is awarded to 9 students overall among which 4 are on the merit basis and 5 on merit-cum-means basis. This is from the second year to for the nine months ( 2 semesters ).
  • Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarships (IMcM) is awarded to the B.Tech 10% of the non Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes students of all streams on the basis of merit-cum-means. This is from the first year to the nine months with a fixed amount of Rs. 3000 every month.
  • Other interested students of B.Tech may also earn in the form of tutorships.

Other than the above-listed scholarships, there are several state and central government schemes and fellowships for the M.Tech and Ph.D. candidates in various disciplines.

RGIPT Facilities

RGIPT offers all the facilities to its students which helps them in better understanding and learning. The infrastructure consists of a Research Lab with 13 workstations, a Computer Lab with upgraded applications, a Centralized Library with a vast and ever-growing collection of books, Hostels for both boys and girls, a Gymnasium and Sports Center to keep body and mind fit to take on the challenges of life, and recreational activities. Ans. The Institute’s closest airport is in Lucknow, which is about 100 kilometers from Jais, Amethi. If you are traveling from afar, the best option is to fly into either Lucknow or Allahabad. You can arrive by car or by train. There are frequent buses from Lucknow or Allahabad to Raebareli, and Institute buses, as well as public transportation, are available from Raebareli to the Institute.

Ans. The institute offers on-campus placements from various recruiters among which Bharat petroleum and many other big companies visited on-campus placement last year highest package was approximately 25 lakh per annum and the average was 12 lakh per annum. ONGC selected 12 students approximately 70% of students got placement.

Ans. The Institute’s Student Hostels have spacious lodging and are conveniently situated between the administrative and academic areas. It also has a range of leisure and entertainment facilities. The hostels have WiFi and LAN internet connectivity and including a convenient and secure stay on campus. The Institute has separate hostels for boys and girls, which are managed by the Council of Wardens and have strict security measures in place.
