COVID-19 pandemic has hit the education sector hard. Schools and Colleges are shut, along with various coaching institutes. Entrance Exams for engineering and medical courses have been postponed twice since the COVID-19 pandemic started. JEE Main 2020 was recently postponed until 1st to 6th September 2020. Considering the delay in the academic year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has planned to review the possibility of conducting JEE Main 2021 January session.

Beginning in 2019, NTA started conducting JEE Main twice – the first session in January and the second session in April. But 2020 has been a setback and the possibility of conducting the second session of JEE Main seems very low. JEE Main April 2020 has been postponed twice since COVID-19 outbreak in March. The postponing has shifted the academic year by over 5 months now. Due to this delay, NTA wants to review the January 2021 session of JEE Main.
Decision To Be Taken After Schools Reopen
As per the statement by a senior-level officer from the HRD Ministry, “NTA will be taking a call on JEE Main January 2021, after the schools reopen. The decision will depend upon the prevailing situation of COVID-19 in the country. NTA will also have to consider board exams too, whether it is possible to conduct boards in February 2021.”
It was also said that any further delay in reopening the schools or conducting other school-level exams will also shape (or delay) the time-table of JEE Main 2021 and NEET (UG) 2021. Some other exams conducted by NTA on the graduate level might also be affected such as the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) and others. These exams are usually conducted during the end of January considering the colleges start their admission process for PG courses around March and April.
