With a lot of news reports mentioning reduction of the syllabus in new academic sessions for JEE Main and NEET and other examinations due to delay caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the country-wide lockdown, it is natural that rumours about the current session of JEE Main 2020 were bound to spread. In a news report published by NDTV, an NTA official has clarified that there will be no reduction in the syllabus for JEE Main 2020 which is scheduled for 18th to 23rd July 2020 now. NTA is the official conducting agency for JEE Main and NEET, which comes directly under the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
Sorting out rumours about the exam
Rumours about the reduction in the syllabus were emerging stating that the syllabus for JEE Main 2020 has been reduced due to the distress caused by COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown imposed by the government to prevent the spread.
“Do not believe the rumours. The syllabus for both JEE Main and NEET examinations remains the same”, said the NTA official.
Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal has stated in the live session held on Facebook and Twitter, as well as, in a separate statement with Indian Express that the syllabus for the upcoming academic year will be reduced according to the time period lost. There were no mentions about the current year syllabus due to which speculations from the internet started emerging.
With the postponement of the exam dates and the JEE Main new dates set for July 3rd week, it was needless to say that the exam syllabus remained the same as before. Moreover, students now have a reasonable, rather sufficient time to prepare for the examination as the exams have been delayed by over 3 months. Aspirants of the JEE Main examination usually start preparing right from the start of Class 11th and some even start from class 10th.
