North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences Admission 2021: Dates, Eligibility, Selection, Cutoff, Application Process

North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong invites applications for its BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing courses in the month of June, 2021. The notification about the prospectus along with the application form shall be posted in the institutes’ website. The last date for application submission will be in August, 2021 for both courses. The counselling for BSc Nursing will be held in the same month. Other dates shall be notified soon.

Some of the key points for eligibility and admission are as below:

  • Candidates should have passed Class 12 having subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) and English Core / English Elective from any recognised board with 45% marks in aggregate.
  • The candidate should be medically fit and a citizen of India.
  • Candidates above 25 years of age and below 17 years of age on 31st December, 2021 are not eligible for admission.
  • The students shall be selected on the basis of merit in the entrance exam conducted by the institute and subsequent counselling.
  • Candidates found guilty of misconduct or convicted for any offence shall not be eligible for admission.

Admission to NEIGRIHMS’ MBBS program is based on NEET (UG) exam score for the 8 seats under All India Quota (AIQ) and 18 seats under north east open quota. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the date of NEET (UG) exam on 1st August, 2021. But, with Class 12 board exams postponed, candidates shall expect a delay in the NEET registration process. Follow announcements here.

NEIGRIHMS had released application forms for its MD/MS programs. But the NEET PG exam, earlier scheduled on 18th April, 2021 have been postponed in view of the current surge in COVID19 cases in the country as stated by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The exams will be held after 31st August, 2021.

NEIGRIHMS Admission 2021

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS is a course on medical science with a duration of 4.5 years and 1 year compulsory rotating internship program.

The annual intake for MBBS is 50 seats. The seat distribution is 8 seats under AIQ, 18 seats under north east open quota and 24 seats reserved under state quota.

NEIGRIHMS MBBS Admission 2021

Preliminary Screening:

The NEET UG or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a National level entrance exam conducted by NTA for admissions in to all medical courses in the country. The exam is a paper and pen exam having 3 sections with 180 questions on Physics, Biology and Chemistry of 3 hours duration. Each correct answer is awarded 4 marks, each wrong answer a -1 and each unanswered question being awarded no marks at all.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET UG 2021:

  • The candidate who is a citizen of India, Non-Resident Indians (NRI’s), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and foreign national.
  • The candidates must have passed higher secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English as core subjects from recognized boards.
  • Candidate must have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December 2021, though the upper age limit has not been declared.
  • The minimum aggregate of marks in PCB subjects is 50% for UR, 40% for OBC/ SC/ ST and 45% for PWD candidates.
  • For admission in to the 18 seats under North East Open Quota, the candidate must be a resident Indian citizen and permanent resident or domicile of one of the 8 north eastern states including Sikkim. They should have completed their 2 year higher secondary or equivalent recognized course in India.
  • Candidates found guilty of misconduct or convicted for any offence shall not be eligible for admission.

Selection Criteria:

  • The admission to the 8 All India Quota and 18 North East Open Quota seats is based on NEET UG 2021 score and subsequent counselling.
  • The 24 state reserved seats, i.e., 4 for Arunachal Pradesh, 9 for Meghalaya, 3 for Mizoram and 8 for Nagaland are filled by state government nominations according to their state merit list.
  • The counselling will be held in offline mode in the institute.

NEIGRIHMS MD/ MS Admission 2021

The Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science is offered in 8 specialities namely Anaesthesiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Microbiology, Pathology, Radiodiagnosis, General surgery and Anatomy and General Medicine. The duration of the course is 3 years. The candidates joining the courses are called Junior Resident (PG). The total seats are 20.

Preliminary Screening:

The NEET PG or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate is a National level entrance exam conducted by NBE for admissions in to all post graduate medical courses in the country. The exam will have 200 multiple choice questions based on MBBS curriculum.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET PG 2021:

  • The candidate must be a resident of India and permanent resident of one of the 8 north eastern states of India including Sikkim.
  • The candidates must possess a MBBS degree recognized by Medical Council of India.
  • The candidate should have a permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or should obtain the same within a month from the date of admission.
  • The candidates already pursuing a MD/ MS program in any subject are not eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria:

  • The admission to 10 seats under All India Quota, 5 seats under North East Open Quota and 5 seats for NEIGRIHMS MBBS students is based on NEET PG score and subsequent counselling.
  • The counselling will be held in offline mode in the institute.

NEIGRIHMS BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing Admission 2021

The Bachelor of Science Nursing (50 seats) is a 4-year duration course including 6-month compulsory internship as per Indian Nursing Council and Master of Science Nursing (10 seats) is a 2-year duration course with a 6-month internship program. Both the courses are affiliated to North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong.

Preliminary Screening:

The candidates should attend a competitive entrance examination conducted by NEIGRIHMS. The exam for BSc Nursing is of 2 hours with 100 objective type questions with 1 mark each for correct answers. There will be no negative marks for incorrect answers.

For MSc Nursing, the exam is of 2 hours with 200 objective type questions, each correct answer carrying 1 mark and each incorrect answer -0.25 marks.

The syllabus for BSc Nursing entrance exam will be from higher secondary course syllabus and that for MSc Nursing will be as per the syllabus announced by NEIGRIHMS.

Eligibility Criteria for BSc Nursing 2021:

  • For applying to BSc Nursing, the candidate should have passed higher secondary (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized board.
  • The candidates should have scored minimum aggregate of 45% in subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
  • Candidate must have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December 2021, though the upper age limit has not been declared.
  • Candidates found guilty of misconduct or convicted for any offence shall not be eligible for admission.
  • The candidate should be a citizen of India.

Eligibility Criteria for MSc Nursing 2021:

  • Candidates should have a minimum qualification of BSc Nursing (Hons) or BSc Nursing or Post Basic BSc Nursing from an institute recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  • The candidate should have a minimum aggregate of marks of 55%.
  • BSc Nursing graduates should have a minimum 1-year experience in a hospital, college or school of nursing, community health setup or program after registering in State Nursing Council.

Selection Criteria:

  • The admission is based on merit of the marks scored in the competitive entrance examination conducted by NEIGRIHMS.

NEIGRIHMS MD/ MCh Admission 2021

The Doctor of Medicine in Cardiology and Master of Chirurgiae are super speciality post-doctoral courses. It is the highest degree in surgery in India. The duration of the course is 3 years and is affiliated to North Eastern Hill University (NEHU). The number of seats available are 2, 1 under the AIQ and 1 under the North East Open Quota.

Preliminary Screening:

The NEET SS or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Super Speciality courses is a National level entrance exam conducted by NBE for admissions in to all super speciality medical courses in the country.

The exam will be in 2 parts of 1 hour 45 minutes and 3 hours 30 minutes long respectively with a total of 100 marks

Ques. Does NEIGRIHMS conduct a separate admission test for its programs?

Ans. Except for admissions in to its BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing courses, NEIGRIHMS does not conduct any admission test of its own.

Ques. How can I get admission in one of the courses offered by NEIGRIHMS?

Ans. The eligible candidates are chosen based on merit and subsequent counselling. The NEET score or an entrance exam marks (for BSc and MSc Nursing) is considered for merit listing of the candidates and only candidates who have registered and applied in NEIGRIHMS website can participate in the admission process.

Ques. What happens if two people are tied for a seat during admission at NEIGRIHMS?

Ans. The tie is broken by comparing and eliminating the marks scored in higher secondary English, then Physics, Chemistry and lastly Biology. If there is still a tie, preference is given to the older person.

Ques. How will if I know if I have been selected at NEIGRIHMS?

Ans. The institute does not send individual communication to the students. It publishes a merit list of selected candidates for each of the courses. The publication date of the merit list will be notified in the institutes’ website.
