National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur was instituted in 1960 by an Act of Parliament and was previously recognized as Regional Engineering College in Durgapur. It is one of the eight so universities endeavoured to function as a pacesetter for engineering discipline in the country.

This university has been ranked 96th (Overall) and 47th (Engineering) by NIRF in 2020. It is an AICTE, NBA Accreditation, and UGC-approved University.

NIT Durgapur Admissions

Admission to NIT, Durgapur is done on an entrance exam basis for some courses and on Institute’s written test for remaining courses. Like JEE for B.Tech, GATE for M.Tech, CAT/ MAT/ XAT for MBA, JAM for MSc, Institute’s written test for M.Tech (Sponsored) & Ph.D.

How to Apply?

  • The application process will be done online.
  • Applicants will have to register themselves online on a particular entrance exam’s website to appear for the exam. Like, apply online for JEE exam if you want to take admission in a B.Tech course, apply online for the GATE exam if you want to take admission in an M.Tech course, etc.
  • Fill out the application form carefully with all the necessary details and documents.
  • Pay the application fees through the mentioned online mode of payment.
  • Make sure to take at least two printout copies of the application form for future references.
  • After qualifying the entrance exam, applicants will have to register themselves for the counselling process. Like JoSAA Counselling after JEE exam, CCMT counselling after the GATE exam.
  • After qualifying the counselling and other rounds, seats will be allotted to the applicants. Then, he/she will have to report to the Institute for the admission process.
  • For the admission process, if the applicants meet the eligibility criteria and the verification of the documents are done properly, then he/she is eligible to complete the admission process by submitting the admission fees of the course.

NIT Durgapur Facilities

Various facilities are provided by NIT, Durgapur. Below are the most important facilities stated.

  • Hostels, Residential Area & Guest House: There are nine hostels on the premises (seven for boys and two for girls). Most teachers and staff reside in the residential quarters provided by the Institute. A modern Guest House is provided by the Institute besides the Director’s Bungalow.
  • Shopping Complex: There is a Shopping Complex located in the middle of the residential area for students and faculty to meet the daily requirement.
  • Library: Library is and will always be an important part of a college. It advances the study method, research & development memoranda. NIT, Durgapur’s library has a collection of over 1.7 lakh volumes of books in the form of textbooks, reference books & journals, etc. The library has recently introduced a Wi-Fi facility for everyone to study and obtain information easily.
  • Medical Unit: Healthy and fit lifestyle of students, faculty, and staff members are what NIT, Durgapur nourishes. The college not just focuses on physical health but also cares about psychological health. The college’s medical unit is served by three residential (full-time) doctors, three temporary doctors, and other medical staff (nurses).
  • Canteen: There are 2 canteens. Institute’s canteen has different sections like Hall 5 Canteen, B/L Cafe, Wonder Cafe, Nescafe, Roy Restaurant, Chitrangani, Chandu Tea Stall, and Techno.
  • HVL and Computer Centre: Institute provides a computer centre and High Voltage Laboratory for better and practical study.
