National Institute of Science and Technology, is a private autonomous institute with a Grade A accreditation by NAAC, NBA accreditation and 69th All India ranking by NIRF. Promoted by the SM Charitable Educational Trust, it is one of the top institutes for its programs in science, engineering and management studies in India.

The marks scored in higher secondary or equivalent qualifying exams along with the marks in JEE, OJEE are considered for admission into their BTech courses. For MTech, admissions are through OJEE counselling with preference given for candidates with GATE score. Students can also enrol for the PhD program of the institute which is recognized as the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). It places special emphasis on research and innovation and has bagged INR 6.6 Crores in research funds from various government organizations like SERB, DRDO, ISRO, AICTE etc.

  • The April and May session of JEE exams 2021, has been postponed by NTA due to rising COVID surge in the nation.
  • The OJEE exams 2021, which the institute considers for admission into their MTech and MBA courses, can be applied for till 15th June, 2021.
  • The CAT exams 2021, for admission into the institute’s MBA course is expected to be held in the last week of November, 2021 and the registration begins in July.

NIST Orissa Scholarships 

NIST Orissa offers various scholarships to help its deserving students and those in need to pursue their studies. Most of these are awarded on a need and merit basis. Research students can also avail a few scholarships at NIST. Some of the scholarships provided by the institute are listed below:

  • Manas Ranjan Sahu Scholarship: The annual scholarship for an amount of INR 25000, in memory of an ex-student of the same name, is awarded to a final year BTech student on the basis of Merit-cum-Means at the beginning of the semester.
  • The Economic Hardship Scholarship: An annual scholarship of INR 18000 is awarded to economically backward students to help them with their academic expenses. This scholarship is given to 30 students of BTech, 3 Students of MCA and 2 Students of MBA course.
  • Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme: For undergraduate students whose total annual family income is less than INR 4.5 Lakhs, a full tuition fee waiver is given under this scheme for the entire course period. This is applicable to 5% of the total intake of undergraduate students.
  • Book Grant Scholarship: This scholarship, for an amount of INR 2500 per semester is awarded to economically backward students to help them purchase books and stationery for academic use. It is given to 25 students of BTech, 3 students of MCA and 2 students from MBA per Semester.
  • Travel Grant Scholarship: Students who publish papers in any national or international conference can claim all the expenses incurred to present the paper under this scholarship.
  • Research Assistantship Scholarship: Students in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses can assist and carry out research work jointly with a faculty member or a researcher. A stipend of INR 1250 is given to such assisting students.
  • M. Tech Scholarship: This scholarship is given to all students joining Masters in Technology courses in the institute. A monthly scholarship of Rs.3000 is awarded to each student under this scheme. Students who are GATE qualified also get an additional Stipend of Rs, 8000 from MHRD, Govt. of India.
  • Merit Scholarship: Students of BTech, MTech, MBA and MCA who score more than 9.0 SGPA in undergraduate and more than 8.5 GPA in graduate program are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship varies between INR 1000 to INR 5000 based on merit.
  • Teaching Assistantship Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded each year to meritorious students who are selected as Teaching Assistants to assist the faculty in their academic work. The students received a monthly stipend of INR 1250 for this.
