Mr Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi, has said in an interview that the dates of JEE Main January 2021 could be delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. The number of cases are growing continuously with the daily cases reaching a new high of 34,000 cases. He said that there could be a month or more delay in the JEE Main 2021 January session.
The question was asked to the Director on whether JEE Main 2021 could be conducted on time. On which he replied that, “It is difficult to predict anything as of now, but I feel the exam dates might be delayed by a month. This is because the JEE Main 2020 admissions might take a month or so after the exams are conducted in September this year. Considering this delay, it is not possible to plan and conduct another exam at national level with more than 10 lakh applicants, within this time gap.”
Unavailability of Classroom Education
Usually the JEE Main Application Forms are started during the month of September for the January 2020 session. This is to ensure all the formalities before the exam are completed within the stipulated time period. There are various errors that students make during registrations which have to be corrected. Moreover, due to the pandemic, there is very little opportunity for classroom education in the coming few months. This has hampered the learning process of students which cannot ever be equivalent to the quality of education imparted online. However, NTA has introduced their own JEE Main Mock Tests Application for continuous learning of students.
There has been no announcement of reduction of syllabus in JEE Main or JEE Advanced as of yet. However, CBSE has announced a revised syllabus with 30% reduction in all the subjects of class 12th. Many are expecting NTA or JEE Advanced authority, Joint Admission Board (JAB) to announce a reduction in the syllabus.
JEE Main 2020 April session is delayed by over 5 months and is set to be conducted by NTA from 1st to 6th September. Soon after, IIT Delhi will conduct JEE Advanced 2020 on 27th September 2020. The probability of conducting the exams of these dates is very low as the pandemic situation is still not under control by the government.
