As per the reports from centre coordinators of Lucknow, 597 candidates out of 1065 applicants appeared for Day 1 of JEE Main 2020. September 1st was allocated for B.Arch and B.Planning papers of JEE Main. Lucknow city had a low attendance of only 56% as 469 applicants did not take the exams amid the fears of COVID-19.
According to official data-
- For the first shift, 224 out of 528 applicants did not take the exam (42.4%).
- For the second shift, 245 out of 537 candidates skipped the exam (45.6%).
Previous year, the rate was much less around 15-20% only.
Candidates who appeared at exam centres in Lucknow were from nearby districts such as Unnao, Rae Bareli, Barabanki. They said that many fear the risk of COVID-19 spread during travel. Hence, they decided to skip the exams. Students who attended the exam centres were also concerned on coming, but felt much satisfied due to proper management and following of COVID-19 Safety Protocols at exam centres.
A candidate named Anupriya Gupta said, “I travelled from Hardoi to Lucknow. The exam centre is in the outskirts of the city which is difficult to reach easily. However, outside exam halls there was not a heavy crowd and COVID-19 guidelines were being followed strictly. I was pacified.”
“I was in panic while travelling to the exam centre. I was asked to walk through a sanitization tunnel similar to other candidates. The examiners were wearing PPE Kits after which I was relieved,” said Akshat from Rae Bareli.
Many students were fearing the spread of COVID-19 due to improper management at various exams like KCET and the entrance exam of BHU. The pictures showed heavy crowds with no social distancing outside exam centres. Till now, no such report has come out for NTA’s exam centres for JEE Main 2020.
