Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has said that the JEE Main 2021 syllabus must be reduced. He spoke at the General Council meeting of NCERT chaired by Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal. Along with JEE Main 2021, he also asked for a reduction in NEET 2021 syllabus.
However, compared to the 30% reduction in CBSE syllabus, he asked for a 50% reduction for these entrance exams. Reason being the loss of classroom education and delay of results amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
5. In wake of disruptions due to corona, we need to defer Board Exams to May to ensure adequate preparation time for students.
The syllabus of Board Exams should be reduced to 50% in light of schooling loss.
Next year’s JEE & NEET exams should be based on reduced syllabus.

Manish Sisodia also gave some other points in the meeting.
- He criticised the 4 stage (5+3+3+4) model saying it will still retain the 12th standard system which will be useless. He also proposed that 10th and 12th boards should be discontinued.
- In one of the points he asked that use of 12th Board marks should be not required at any stage in higher education since NTA has already got the responsibility of conducting entrance exams for higher education.
Currently, NTA has conducted both the major exams in 2020 with COVID-19 safety measures. JEE Main counselling is being conducted at JoSAA 2020 portal to ensure it is a completely safe and online only process. Any announcements for JEE Main 2021 are yet to be made since the JEE Main 2020 processes are yet to be completed.
