Last updated on November 21st, 2020 at 12:10 pm

In normal circumstances, Joint Entrance Examination i.e. JEE Main is held in two sessions – January and April. However, COVID-19 pushed the academic calendar by over 5 months for students. Even after this disruption, NTA sources have said that JEE Main 2021 January session will be conducted, but in the month of February. Similarly, JEE Main 2021 April session will be delayed by a month and will be conducted in May 2021.

The only official announcement for JEE Main 2021 is on the exam languages which will be included to cover more regional languages. There are some expectations that registrations could begin in this month i.e. November 2020, but that could also be delayed as no official announcement has been done on JEE Main Exam Dates 2021.

The exam is held in two sessions to give a fair opportunity to students. Due to this reason, many students were able to improve their performance in the second session of the exam. So not conducting the JEE Main January session is less likely, but it surely is delayed. As per the sources, they will ‘hopefully’ conduct it by the end of February.

Currently, state boards have been discussing the prospect of conducting the board exams with a slight delay to ensure students get an apt amount of time to complete their exam preparations. Usually, 12th boards are held around March, but this year those could be conducted in April 2021.

NTA has been reviewing a suitable schedule after having word with various state boards. With that being said, the official announcement is likely to come out in a week or 10 days.

Change in JEE Advanced 2021 Syllabus

The academic year has reduced to merely a few months after results of the 12th boards of 2020 came out. Soon after that, CBSE announced a 30% reduction in syllabus by 30%. But till date, no such announcement was made for JEE Main or JEE Advanced 2021.

However, Joint Admission Board (JAB), authority for admissions in IITs and formulating rules on JEE Advanced will hold a meeting on 21st November. They will have discussions on various matters one of which will be revision of JEE Advanced 2021 Syllabus.

The syllabus will be revised in accordance with CBSE’s reduction in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for 11th and 12th class students. JAB constitutes directors of all the IITs and officials from the Ministry of Education (MHRD). The panel will seek several other agendas in the meeting other than syllabus. IIT Kharagpur will also be handed over the charge of conducting JEE Advanced 2021.
