JEE Advanced 2020 Counselling Process: Seat Allocation, Eligibility Criteria, List of Documents

The JEE Advanced 2020 counselling process and seat allocation is done by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) as a centralized counselling process. To register for JEE Advanced 2020 counselling process and seat allocation, candidates had to enter their JEE Main Roll Number and JEE Advanced Password. All the candidates who qualify and fulfill the other conditions in JEE Advanced 2020 will be able to participate in the counselling and seat allocation process.

The JoSAA administration will complete the JEE Advanced Counselling and Seat Allocation 2020 process in 7 stages. There will be many things in the counselling and seat allocation process for JEE Advanced 2020, such as registration, filling the option of your choice, mock allocation, reporting to the institute, etc.

JEE Advanced Counselling Process 2020 Schedule

Candidates who have passed JEE Main and JEE Advanced will have to participate in the JoSAA 2020 Counselling process for the allocation of seats. Admission to participating Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will be done according to the rank secured in JEE Advanced 2020. Seven rounds of seat allocation will be conducted through JoSAA 2020, along with two mock allocation rounds. Candidates can check the table below for possible important dates of JoSAA 2020 as official dates have not been announced yet.

It may be noted that the schedule will remain the same even if 17 May 2020 is declared a public holiday. All PwD candidates are eligible for one hour compensatory time, i.e., the end time will be 13:00 IST for Paper 1 and 18:30 IST for Paper 2 & Paper 3.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced Counselling Process

JEE Advanced 2020 Counselling will take place tentatively from 16 June 2020. Seat allotment and pay seat acceptance Fee can be paid through JoSAA Candidate Login. From 16 June 2020 JoSAA has conducted the JEE Advanced Counselling process 2020. Admission in IITs and ISM Dhanbad will take place through the centralized counselling and seat allotment process. This year, 31980 candidates qualified in JEE Advanced Exam extended merit list, announces IIT.

Candidates who fulfil the below eligibility conditions will be able to participate in the counselling and seat allocation process of JEE Advanced 2020.

  • In order to join the counselling process, it is necessary for the candidates to attain the qualified rank in JEE Advanced 2020.
  • Candidates are required to bring at least 75% marks in the 12th (or equivalent) examination. For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Tribe and Disabled category, they should have at least 65% marks in 12th standard. or
  • Candidates should remain in the top 20 percentile by category in the 12th class (or equivalent) board examination.

Schedule Of JEE Advanced 2020

The examination consists of three papers (Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3) of three hours duration each. All three papers are compulsory. The JEE Advanced 2020 exam will be held as per the following schedule:

JEE Advanced 2020 Result

On Monday, June 08, 2020, results will be declared. After the results are declared, All India Ranks (AIR) of successful candidates will be available through the JEE Advanced 2020 online portal. The candidates will also receive text messages on their registered mobile numbers. Though to candidates, Individual rank cards will not be sent.

JEE Advanced Counselling Process 2020

The JEE Advanced counselling process is divided into 5 steps which are mentioned below:

Step 1 – JoSAA Counselling Process Registration

Candidates will first have to register for the JEE Advanced Counselling process and seat allocation, which will be organized by JoSAA. Candidates have to use their JEE Main 2020 roll number and JEE Advanced 2020 password to login. After checking all the previously filled information, the candidates will have to confirm it again.

Step 2 – Filling and Locking of Choice

Registered candidates have to choose the college and course of their choice from the available options. Choice of option can also be arranged. Candidates can select a maximum of 50 choices. Once the candidates are sure of their choice, they have to lock it.

Step 3 – Allotment of Seats 

Examination administration will also conduct mock allocation, so that candidates can know about their possible allocation as per their current choice. After the mock allocation, they will be able to make changes according to their choice.

Allotment of seats will be done on the basis of:-

  1. Merit
  2. The choice is given
  3. Category
  4. Availability of seats

The examination administration will allocate seats in 7 phases. After every allocation, candidates have to choose their option from float, freeze and slide.

Step 4- Reporting at Centres

Allotted candidates will have to download their allotment letter and will have to pay fees for accepting seats. Certificates will be examined at the respective reporting centres. Finally, candidates have to report on the institute allotted for seat confirmation.

Documents Required for Provisional Admission

Candidates are required to submit the original and attested photocopy of the following documents for the verification process:-

  • JEE Advanced 2020 Seat Allotment Letter
  • JEE Advanced 2020 Admit Card
  • JEE Advanced 2020 Application Form
  • Properly filled medical examination report
  • Date of birth certificate: 10th class / HSC / Birth certificate / Any other certificate as proof of date of birth
  • 12th class / SSC / equivalent examination mark sheet and passing certificate
  • Category Certificate (OBC (NCL) / SC / ST / PWD / DS) issued by competent authority
  • For foreign nationals: Attested photocopy of passport page containing name, photo and nationality information
