Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) was established in 2016, under the mentorship of IIT Delhi. It is considered an ‘Institute of National Importance’ under the “Institutes of Technology Act 1961”. The permanent IIT Jammu campus in Jagti village offers a beautiful view of the Trikuta hills, a natural landscape between the dense greenery.
- IIT Jammu has an intake of around 200 students every year as per the seat matrix. Currently, there are over 600 students, with 90 talented faculty members.
- The admission of the students is made through the merit basis according to the results of the various common entrance exams like JEE Advanced for B.Tech and IIT JAM for M.Tech.

IIT Jammu: B.Tech Admissions via JEE Advanced
The IITJammu admission process is managed and carried under the authority of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Joint Seat Allocation Authority or JoSAA conducts the counselling for various participating institutes in India.
B.Tech Courses Offered
Initially, IIT Jammu began classes with B.Tech courses in the year 2016 with just three departments. Within four years, IIT Jammu has included more disciplines with each year intake of around 30 students for all streams. Currently, the specialisation programs in B.Tech at IIT Jammu are as follows:

Eligibility at IIT Jammu for B.Tech
For getting admission into the UG courses in IIT Jammu, the students need to meet the following conditions:
- Eligibility for JEE Main – Candidates should have obtained at least 75% marks in 10+2 or equivalent qualifying exam or should be in the top 20% percentile of their recognised Central or State board. However, for 2021 admissions, candidates are just required to pass Class XII.
- Eligibility for JEE Advanced – Candidate must be in the top 2.5 lakh qualifying candidates of JEE Main (including the reserved categories) in Paper 1 of JEE Main.
Finally, the college has no separate rules/eligibility criteria for admission. Moreover, unlike NITs, IITs do not have any reservation under state domiciles.

Study At IIT Jammu During COVID-19
As a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Institute has laid down various guidelines and Standard of Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to curb the spread of the infection at the campus. Proper preventive measures have been taken:

Scholarships Offered at IIT Jammu
The following is the list of IIT Jammu scholarships which are available to the undergraduate students who are admitted here on the basis of JEE Advanced results:
- Merit Cum Means (MCM) Scholarship –
- The Merit Cum Means scholarship will be awarded to at most 25% of undergraduate Bachelor of Technology students.
- The annual income of parents should not be more than INR 5,00,000.
- Also, the scholarship amount of Merit Cum Means student grant is INR 1000 per month.
- In addition to this, the tuition fee of INR 1,00,000/semester is exempt for students.
- Free Messing Scholarship –
- Students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) will be relieved from the Tuition Fee for B.Tech Course.
- The conveniences of free messing (only basic menu included) and a pocket allowance of INR 250 per month will be granted to SC/ST students who fulfil the criteria.
- These students will also be exempted from the payment of the student accommodation rent provided they full the criteria for this scholarship.
Criteria to Avail Freeship Scholarships
- Merit Criterion:
- To avail the benefit of this financial aid, the newly admitted students (B.Tech students) can apply for the merit-based scholarship on the basis of their JEE All India Rank or the 1st-semester results (i.e. SGPA-Semester Grade Point Average).
- Means Criterion:
- To avail the benefit of the allowance, the students whose Gross Parental Income is not more than INR 5,00,000 are eligible for the means-based scholarships.
- The students can apply for the same after submitting the income proof documents of parents.

Ans. The first batch of IIT Jammu was admitted in 2016. Hence, the first placements were conducted in 2020. Students from the graduating batch received 70 offers. The highest package offered was INR 14 LPA and the average package for Computer Science was INR 17 LPA.
