Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar or IIT Gandhinagar, also known as IITGN is one of the eight young IITs. The institute was initially monitored by IIT Bombay during its first few years. Later, the classes at the new campus on the banks of river Sabarmati began in July 2015. IIT Gandhinagar ranking is #24 for engineering and #35 in the overall colleges list, based on the NIRF Rankings 2020.

  • Since its inception in 2008, IIT Gandhinagar registered a significant increase in the number of students applying for numerous UG and PG courses.
  • The institute was established in Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat on the banks of river Sabarmati. It is one of the top engineering colleges in India now.

IIT Gandhinagar is accredited by the Department of Higher Education of the MHRD. To be eligible for a B.Tech course offered by IIT Gandhinagar, aspirants need to qualify JEE Advanced and clear the IIT Indore cut off set under JoSAA Counselling.

  • The B.Tech courses at IIT Gandhinagar have a dual-major programme as well where students can choose to take up majors under a different branch than the one they have opted for.

Eligibility for B.Tech at IIT Gandhinagar

A candidate is considered eligible for admission to IITs if he/she is eligible for JEE Advanced. Hence, JEE Advanced Eligibility can be reviewed. But there are certain conditions for allotment of seats.

  • The candidate with a minimum 75% marks (SC/ST candidates get to apply even with 65% as well) in Class 12 from a recognized board or school. (Note: This criteria has been scrapped for 2021 admissions. Candidates are just required to pass Class XII this year.)
  • It is mandatory to study Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class XII.
  • Candidates post-qualifying for JEE Main need to clear the JEE Advanced cut off to seek admission for a course at Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar.

The IIT Gandhinagar cut off ranks means the closing ranks for each branch. IITGN offers six B.Tech courses to students via JEE Advanced Scores. IIT Gandhinagar Cut Off 2021 has not been released yet. Cut off ranks for 2019 & 2020 for a few popular B.Tech courses are mentioned below. These will help you get a fair idea about the cut off trend at IIT Gandhinagar. Closing Ranks are provided for 6th Round Counselling and for general category only. In 2020, the cut offs have decreased for all courses except for Computer Science Engineering. The cut off is the lowest for Material Science and Engineering (10495) and it is the highest for CSE (1448).

Study At IIT Gandhinagar During COVID-19

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, similar to other institutes, started conducting online classes to maintain social distancing and control the spread of COVID- 19 pandemic further. The institute has revised the academic calendar 2021-22 and the classes will now commence from August 4, 2021.

  • All the faculty members at IIT Gandhinagar provide online classes to the students.
  • The institute has also started a virtual seminar series that covers several topics and is designed to make it more accessible to more audiences. These are aimed towards encouraging the audience to take part in numerous topics like physics, biology, engineering and humanities.

IIT Gandhinagar: Reservations via JEE Counselling (JoSAA)

The category wise IIT Gandhinagar reservation criteria for the seats is mentioned below:

  • 10% of the seats will be reserved for the candidates belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS).
  • 15% will be reserved for the Scheduled Caste, while 7.5% for ST category candidates
  • 27% of the seats are reserved for OBC-NCL category candidates.
  • While 5% of seats are reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in each category.

The reservation at IIT Gandhinagar is followed as per seat allotment rules of JoSAA. There are no separate reservation rules of the college.
