B.Tech Course in IIITs through JEE Main
B.Tech admissions in India are taken at the national and state levels. The minimum eligibility to get admission to a B. Tech course is completing class 12 with subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biotechnology/Biology and sitting for JEE Main entrance exam. Candidates also have to fulfill the JEE Main Eligibility Criteria to be able to sit for the entrance exam. The candidates need to have at least 60 percent marks in total and individual subjects taken together for admissions in IIITs in India; however, the minimum percentage differs from university to university.
What is B.Tech?
Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) is a four-year professional course, which is divided into eight semesters. The entire four-year course is divided into seminars, practicals, lectures, projects/research work and industrial training. Teachings provided in first year are the same for all the B. Tech aspirants while in the second and third-year students, education is provided as per the chosen specialization. In the final year of study, the students are offered a choice of elective subjects and offered opportunities for industrial training as well.
Main Difference between a B.E and B.Tech Degree?
The main difference between these two degree programs is in regard to the course material taught and the orientation of the programmed.
The following table will help in understanding the difference between these two programs.
|B.E. is more theoretical and knowledge oriented. B.E course is study based on theory.||B. Tech is a skill/data-oriented course and is more about application engineering.|
|The course deals with engineering aspects of Science||The course include offering teaching related to all the technical aspects of Science|
|The course is designed to develop innovative types of equipment and useful technical gadgets in the Science and Technology sector.||The course is focused on the principles of engineering and technology and helps improve the quality of teaching.|
Both BE and B. Tech courses provide an opportunity to students to do a course of their choice. The courses are of a duration of 4-years and are spread across 8 semesters.
There are two types of engineering program offered at IIITs including:
- 3-year BE/B. Tech after Diploma in Engineering
- 4-year BE/B. Tech after Class 12
Key Specializations in B. Tech Course include:
- Aeronautical Engineering

JEE Main is a most popular admission test for the aspirants who want to pursue a B. Tech course from IIIT. To become eligible to apply for a B. Tech course at IIIT, the candidates need to clear JEE Main exam.
JEE Main is a common entrance exam to offer admission to the eligible students to different undergraduate programs at IIITs. To be eligible for the B. Tech course, the candidates need to give the JEE (Main) first which is conducted two times in a year. Each year, lakhs of candidates give JEE Main which acts as a gateway to give JEE Main test. As per JEE Main exam pattern is objective in nature and questions from subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are asked in the test.
All the IIITs, although autonomous, are somehow related to each other as they have a common admission process. Admission to UG engineering programs offered at IIITs is mainly carried through the JEE Mains exam. Post coming into an authority in 2018, the National Testing Agency started taking JEE Main twice a year in January and April for admission to various IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. Some of the common exams that are considered to give admission to the students in courses offered at IIITs. The following courses are offered through JEE Main Entrance Exam:
