“Classes for Engineering Courses to Start from 15 September”, Says AICTE Amid COVID-19 Surge

As per the academic calendar for 2021-22 released by AICTE, classes for the engineering courses will be starting from September 15, 2021. This could mean, the government might want to conduct JEE Main 2021 soon.

On May 6, the All India Council for Technical Education released a revised academic calendar after the 62nd Council Meeting. As per the calendar, the first round of counselling is to be completed by August, 31 2021 and the second round of counselling is scheduled to be concluded by September 9, 2021. Further, the classes for the engineering and other technical programs will start from September 15, 2021.

Further, classes for the current students are scheduled to start from August 16, 2021. AICTE also said that the admissions for the postgraduate courses like PGDM and PGCM will go on till August 10, 2021.

Next, the last date for granting admission to distance learning courses and fully online programs in technical education is June 30, 2021. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, AICTE has also directed the institutes not to hike the admission or tuition fees and not to force the selected candidates to pay the advance fees during the lockdown.

However, the Chairman of AICTE, Dr Anil Sahasrabudhe, said that further changes might be made in the academic calendar depending on the situation in future. Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the country, board exams for class 12th have been postponed. JEE Main April and May session and NEET (PG) have also been postponed by the Ministry of Education. However, two JEE Main sessions have been conducted successfully – February and March 2021. NTA has also released JEE Main Result and Answer Keys for both the sessions.
