Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) was established in the year 1968 by the government of India with the collaborations of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). It is now popularly known as the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology. It is situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

It has colleges across the Nation. Education in the field of Plastics Engineering & Technology is the main aim of the institute as there is no other college providing specialization in this field. The institute works under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India, to get admission in this institute candidate first need to qualify JEE exam done every year by CIPET. The institute has good facilities having all kinds of labs related to various courses available at the institute, digital classrooms, hotels, library, cafeterias, etc. Are also available in this institute.
