Admission to B.Tech in Automobile Engineering is mainly conducted through engineering entrance exams hosted by the universities or national level entrance exams such as JEE or AIEEE. Some colleges also give the option of direct admission through selection in their merit list pertaining to the marks obtained by the candidate in the Board Exams.
Students have to attend the counselling procedure which shall allot them colleges post qualifying the entrance exam. Some of the popular entrance exams have been mentioned below-
- Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)- JEE is the most widely known examination for admission into prestigious engineering colleges. It is a two-tier examination which is divided into stages of a.) Main and b.) Advanced stages. Students can get admitted into most of the engineering institutes with qualifying marks in JEE Mains and only admission in IITs’ require also the ranking in JEE Advanced. Online application usually begins around December and continues till late January to early February.
- SRMJEEE – SRMJEEE are national level online entrance examinations conducted by SRM University. For candidates who are willing to enrol themselves for automobile engineering under the programs offered by these universities will have to fill in the application form for their Undergraduate Program. Applications for SRM roll out during December. The Universities also grant admission to top rank holders in Central/State Examinations.
- UPESEAT Entrance Examination- The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun conducts its own aptitude based entrance exam for admission into their B.Tech Programs. Last date for the submission of the application form is the first week of May and the examination is also conducted in May. For board merit based selection, a minimum of 80% qualifying marks is required in aggregate along with having Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in +2.
- COMEDK UGET- COMEDK UGET is a State Level Entrance Examination conducted by the Universities in Karnataka (COMEDK). The same is for securing admission into UG courses in the spheres of medical, engineering and dental.Application forms roll out in the month of February and the process continues till the month of April. Generally, the exam (COMEDK, 2020) is conducted in the month of May.
