Although the dates of JEE Main 2019 January session are coinciding with the XII class students’ practical board exam, it did not reflect much in the number of applications received from students by NTA.

NTA Positive About New JEE Main System

As NTA is conducting JEE Main for the first time, in two slots: January and April, the organization was expecting somewhere around 6 lakh registrations for January session. But to their surprise, the number of applicants turned out to be unexpectedly 9.65 Lakhs. Well, the new conducting authority is looking at it as a good sign as according to them, students have welcomed the decision of conducting the exam twice a year completely in online mode for the first time since its inception.

Other than this, NTA has set up more than 3400 test practice centers across the country to assist students in preparation of JEE Main 2019 which has also been appreciated very much by students.

As per the report, female applicants are just 2.8 lakhs (approx 29%) while applications from male candidates are 6.85 lakhs. Moreover, 38 transgenders have also applied for JEE Main 2019 January session.

The category wise list of applications is indicated below for JEE Main 2019:

Category Number of Applications
General Category 4.72 Lakhs
OBC 3.67 Lakhs
SC 0.89 Lakh
ST 0.36 Lakh

However, when compared to the registrations of the previous year, which were around 12 Lakhs, this year, the number of applicants has decreased by almost 2.5 lakhs.  The decreased number of registrations may be understood with the fact that just after three months of JEE Main 2019, candidates would face their board exams.

Moreover, those candidates who are not appearing in the January slot would be provided with an opportunity of appearing in April slot for the same exam and those who already took the exam in January may also reappear for JEE Main in April. Higher score would be considered valid at the time of admissions.

JEE Main is the most important exam for any engineering aspirant. It is also considered as a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced on the basis of which the student gets admitted to the 23 IITs. Apart from this, candidate may seek admission into IIITs, NITs and CFTIs.

JEE Main rank is used for admissions in various state level institutions in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Uttarakhand. Admit cards for JEE Main 2019 would be released on Dec 19, 2018 on official website of JEE Main i.e. jeemain.nic.in. Here are the steps to download your hallticket.
